Marsters has talked about a scene where Piccolo is being all badass and boldly walking forward when people are shooting "energy blasts" at him. Apparently, he almost got hurt once when a prop rock blew up too close to him. I think it's safe to draw from that that we'll be seeing plenty of ki combat, and I see no reason why Goku wouldn't be eventually dishing out the ass-kicking in that department.
