To be really honest, I would prefer if Peter Jackson DOES NOT touch Evangelion. Sure, I like his movies, the problem is, that his style is too mainstream oriented. Evangelion is the farthest thing from a mainstream oriented anime. Jackson would probably be good for the battles and things like that, things that add action to the movie, but battles is about one tenth of what Evangelion is really about.
Will he be able to portray Asuka's mental breakdown? Or Rei's search for herself? Or Misato's attitude with men to compensate for her father? Or the questioning of most characters of why they do what they do?
I really doubt he could get the mood of Evangelion right. Now, I'm not saying he'd make a bad movie, he'd probably make it great, but it would not be like Evangelion. Although, a move like choosing Peter Jackson would be highly understandable, considering the amount of money that ADV Films, Weta, and Gainax are planning to put into this work. They obviously want to make it directed to the mainstream audience so that it'll make a vast amount of money. I do think that Peter Jackson could make a great movie with Evangelion, but fans of the show would be very pissed by what they get.
