I have been fighting that statement for a long freakin' time. Did they cram LOTR into 89 minutes? No. Narnia? No. HARRY POTTER?? No. Dragonball can be epic for kids and adults too. Just because Dragonball started out as a graphic novel and in Shonen Jump rather than a really long novel with few to no pictures doesn't mean it can't be done just as well. Dragonball has a tank load of information just as the other stories do. There's murder, talking animals, shape-shifting, fantasy, adventure, morals being learned, etc. All of the books and stories have it. I'd love an accurate reboot.
