Well they have to make a stand either way. The main focal point of much of the case, especially at the beginning, is that "kira" is in Japan. They can either go with that and keep the ethnicities true, or the more likely case, they will reverse it and make the whole thing based in the US. It just gets a little convoluted when they have to transpose the FBI investigation, flying to LA and back etc. etc. I have a feeling this is going to be tricky.
