They may be working alogside Zimmer rather than at the forefront. They may be accomplished musicians. But none of that serves to change my opinion that film scores should be done by film composers. Simple as. I don't want to hear a Linkin Park-esque sound on a film, because it draws too much attention to itself; I want orchestral florishes which accentuate and augment the action onscreen. Radio rock should remain exclusively the realm of musical montages, and I highly doubt we'll be seeing any of those in Transformers 2. And for what it's worth, this news is up on the homepage. Has been for about two weeks.
