Scott when he's at the top of his game is a genius, but Transformers isn't really the sort of material I'd associate with him. Absolutely. Have you seen the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven? Brilliant. Scott hasn't done sci-fi in a long time but if you're looking to ground the outrageous in reality then you only need to look at Blade Runner and Alien. He's exactly the type of person to get a "human" performance out of a giant robot. Ok, Cameron has experience with the exact same thing and there is no doubting his ability to make a kick ass film but I think Scott edges it in the "character" stakes and that puts him over the top.
