Hi, I'm new here. I've been watching these forums for over a year now but for some reason i didn't decide to join until today.

Anyways, who thinks that Akira should be made into a live action movie?

I for one think it's a VERY good idea to make Akira into a LAM.

Why?

Easy. It has an amazing storyline (manga and anime can both be incorporated into the LAM so that it's just not a live replica of the animated movie). It has a storyline that I think north american audiences will enjoy. The characters in Akira don't look like crazy huge-eyed, wacky-haired other anime characters, so it wouldn't look stupid, AND just think how amazing the scene of Tetsuo mutating will be!!

So yea, discuss a LA Akira movie here! :D

Akira is, indeed, amazing. But I think it works as an anime. As a LAM... I fear it would get swallowed up as 'another sci-fi' or something like that. As an anime, though, it's a work of art.

Akira is a classic film as it is. Making it into an LAM... I think that would just pedestrianise it.

Yeah. I like it as it is. A benchmark of anime.

Well, if Otomo had most control of the LAM, I think it would turn out much better than the anime did. All he needs is the money that hollywood has.

But don't you think it would appeal so much to north american audiences? I for one, have never seen a sci-fi movie quite as messed up/weird as Akira. I think it'll give something fresh and original to North American audiences so that they an break free from the horrible sci-fi/horror movies hollywood has been pumping out lately.

And I mean it wouldn't really be that hard to film like the DBZ movie. You can easily set it up in Tokyo. And imagine Kanedas bike as real life?

And as I said before, the LAM wouldn't be just a live replica of the animated version. You could incorporate so much more from the manga too. Because IMO, the manga was much better than the movie in some cases.

I like the idea, but it's too good to be true. Almost everyone I know likes Akira, but I don't think they'd bother seeing it as a LAM.

If it was a LAM it would lose it's artistic element.

Not necesarily, I for one would like to see an attempt at it. Ya never know, Those Asians (dont take offence) are good with computers, Tetsuo transforming might look pretty good, but they might wanna cut the part with his sack transforming.
Something here soon.

I found a bunch screenshots of a Live Action Akira film on AOL image search one time, and I tried to find them to post here, but I don't see them anywhere. There were wallpapers too. I remember it had one of the characters on the red bike and the character's face up close on the right hand side. I don't think the Japanese made it though. I only see one screenshot and it's not that good. Go to aolsearch.com, go to picture search and type 'Akira'. You should find it somewhere.

Nthere have been for some while rumors that Katsuhiro Ôtomo's Akira (1988) will once again be adapted for the big screen, but this time as a live action movie(!). If you could, please take a minute and try to wrap your brain around Tetsuo exploding into a huge mass of writhing flesh that threatens to engulf half of Tokyo. in photorealistic detail. There is a thought I would rather not repeat.

- The CAPTAIN HARLOCK live action movie (directed by Olivier Dahan -> Crimson rivers 2) is on hold, just like the AKIRA live action (Stephen Norrington is no longer attached to the project).

Lol...I gotta say that the effects were really well done(for amateurs) but they couldve done better on the acting..lol

But anyways, imagine if Otomo had a significant amount of control on teh film and he teamed up with hollywood....that would make one good live action Akira film.

Wouldn't it?!
