Gee this board seems so dead! That is why I decided to place this thread, to name your directorial choices. My top choice is Tim Burton. To make it short, aside from being my favorite director he would be the one to bring justice to NGE. He won't get obbsessed with turning EVA into a "US" product and would actually turn it into something many people worldwide can relate to. He knows how to handle characters such as Rei and Shinji, and would love to see his take on religion with this. Plus he is a manga fan, and has been trying for years to adapt one into live action. |

I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about this but I wouldn't mind letting the guys at WETA have full control of this project because they seem to love the series so much and they are all so talented artists I think they could bring this movie to life and keep it true to the the anime at the same time if anyone could.

Maybe they could just let Hideaki Anno direct it, since he does live action things now and not just anime. If not, maybe M. Night Shyamalan. Evangelion is dark, complex, and psychological, like most of Shyamalan's movies. |

I like M. Night Shyamalan, I think he's a good option, and I also like Joaquin Phoenix as an actor...BUT...I'm not sure if Shyamalan would be willing to break his traditions of filming exclusively in Pennsylvania and directing movies from his own original stories. As for me, Alejandro González Iñárritu is like my dream choice. I think he can make Eva feel like Eva better than anybody else, the only problem is that I don't know if he'd manage to work with such special effects as the ones needed and also that the producers of this movie will probably want to dumb it down a bit so that mainstream audiences will accept it. Another director I think could work is Mel Gibson. Yes, I know he might not make it feel as intriguing as Alejandro González Iñárritu would, but I think he still can get the deep and epic feeling. Another reason is that Gibson has already directed a movie in a foreign language and it was a success, and now he's making another one in another foreign language...who knows, maybe he could even make an Eva movie filmed in Japan and with an all Japanese cast (of course, I find this almost impossible, but it's just a thought). |

I really do not see Shaylaman and Gibson as choices, but I do agree on González Iñárritu. I am also thinking of the chance to co-direct with Anno, just as they did on Sin City. By the way, is it OK with you guys if I organize a directors tournament on a separated thread? |

Go ahead. Make sure to make a thread for nominations first. Anyway, González Iñárritu? Hmmm. Well, he should be good. I've never seen 21 Grams, but it got really good reviews. By the way, I'm sort of convinced that M. Night Shyamalan might be losing his touch. The Sixth Sense was good. Unbreakable was incredible. Signs wasn't bad; the pacing was good and the acting was good, but personally, the religious overtones weren't doing it for me. And I heard The Village wasn't that good, and Lady in the Water is getting a lot of negative feedback. |

Well, I have actually loved each single movie by M. Night Shyamalan, including The Village. I haven't seen Lady in the Water though. But again, so far he's only directed movies based on his own original stories, and also, he's filmed all his movies in Pennsylvania (where he lives). And if you haven't seen 21 Grams...well, let me just tell you, it's one of my favorite movies. This movie and Amores Perros really set Gonzles Iñarritu apart from any other director out there. Both movies are nothing short of brilliant. I'm really looking forward to seeing Babel when it comes out in theaters. It has already given him the best director award at the Cannes film festival, which only raises my expectations. |

Ok, I think the best would be Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, and Ridley Scott. |

Sam Raimi might be cool and I would love to hear Peter Jackson was working on it but I don't think he will unless this movie happens after the Halo movie. |

But Jackson will just produce Halo, it seems Del Toro will direct. |
