3) why would a thriller writer like Shyamalan even consider writing an adaptation for a below par cartoon show?
One, money talks. It really does. Two, he really is an open minded guy artisitically from what I saw in the interviews and he has the ability to appreciate the aesthetics of the series. Who cares that its for children? That just means that they will have more time to see it and so will there parents. And let me tell you, there will be a massive audience for this film. Also, this film can only fortify and improve his reputation as a director, why? because its a challenging piece to adapt. Sure, the series is clear cut and all, but to make it look good on film will be a challenge and he said himself that he's devoting the next six years of his life to it. And why shouldn't I take that as true? He also has kids and that is a big factor as directors, including Spielberg, have said that they work on films for their kids from time to time. So, I wouldn't be so shallow and quick to judge this. I've seen Avatar and its a thought provoking series that is quite unique and it also asks a lot of questions. Not to mention the fact that this is unlike anything he's ever worked on which is a reason why he's doing it... do broaden his horizons. All in all, its good enough for him to direct, and he's doing it.
