Hopefully I'll get this review up on the main page soon. But I figure I'll post this up here for everyone to read.

TRANSFORMERS REVIEW

One of the few remaining summer blockbusters has just been released. TRANSFORMERS. So does this movie stack up with its competition? Well in my opinion, not quite.

Lets start with the good.

The most obviously awesome thing about the film has to be the special effects. TRANSFORMERS by far has the best special effects of any other movie released this summer. So a round of applause for ILM on their wonderful work.

The cast was a pretty nice ensemble. I think everyone did a great job, and I had no problems with the acting. Shia Lebouf did a good job at balancing the serious with the silly. He's definitely proved to me that he can star and carry a movie on his own. After all he was pretty much the only good thing in DISTURBIA.

Now onto the... "not so good."

The movie to me seemed a little bit slow. Now the action sequences were quick, bang, crash, explosions in your face, mo fo!! But of course Michael Bay knows his action sequences. If nothing else Michael Bay is almost the king of big action sequences. And the key word there being "sequences."

I'm not saying the movie was too long. A two and half hour movie could definitely be tolerable with this source material. But it seemed that there wasn't enough in the plot to really make it that far. So about half way through the movie it just seemed like they were stretching things out a bit. It seemed like they were trying to milk every bit they could to make it to that time mark they wanted.

The character development wasn't the greatest. It seemed to me that it was written in a way that leaned more toward those that were already very familiar with the Transformers series. Which is certainly understandable because that is, after all, who the movie would mainly be for. And I'm not saying there wasn't development; I think there was ample development that someone who never even heard of transformers would still know what was going on. I just think there could have just been a little bit more to satisfy some questions. Especially on some of the Decepticons.

While I'm on that subject there was something I noticed that isn't really a big deal, and falls into the suspension of belief category, but I just want to point it out because its a little contradicting. This may be considered a little spoilerish by some so you may want to skip the paragraph.

So there you have it. I don't think its a bad movie, not like SPIDER-MAN 3 or FANTASTIC 4: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. Its quite of fun movie to see, just don't expect it to have a super smart plot to it. I definitely think its the best movie Michael Bay has done so far. Just not the best movie of the summer.

If you want to see a great action movie with a good plot, I recommend seeing LIVE FREE OR DIE HARDER. If you don't care as much about plot and just want to see some bad-ass giant robots beating the crap out of each other. Then TRANSFORMERS is going to be the movie for you!

I guess I'll end with saying that I really think that liking this movie is dependent on how big of a Transformers fan you are. If you're a big fan, you'll like it a lot. And if you're not, then its kind of a flip of coin.

I do think its worth the admission price, and everyone should check it out at least once. I may have not been totally sold on it, but who knows, you might think that there is, "more than meets the eye."

Well, this summer has basically sucked when it comes to movies. Spiderman 3, Fantastic 4 and the last Pirates all were disappointing (specially Spiderman 3...what a way to ruin a great franchise). I actually rank Transformers as the second best summer movie I've seen so far, just behind Live Free or Die Hard. However, I have yet to see Ratatouille which might definitely change that.

I do agree with you that Transformers is one of the better movies of the summer. I think Live Free or Die Hard is the best I've seen.

The only movies I think could be better than Live Free or Die Hard this summer are Knocked Up, Ratatouille and maybe The Simpsons. Not sure if I'll have time for all of them though...:(

HA! NICE pic!!! Perfect for you! Pretty good review there. I haven't seen the movie yet myself (I plan to), but I heard about the plot deal, especially w/ the Decepticons. I still haven't seen Disturbia! I heard the acting was great!

Live Free or Die Hard-A-W-E-S-O-M-E! I love Justin Long! He doesn't get enough credit as he should be geting, in my opinion. And of course, Bruce did a kick-@ss job! SiCKO was really good too. Knocked up was hilarious. I want to see the rat! Lol!

Yeah Transformers was awesome, in the tops for my favorite Summer movies with Die Hard and Pirates(Still don't see why a lot of people didn't like it), and I am now waiting on Harry Potter I'm sure that will be good.

People like me were disappointed at Pirates because the plot was a mess. Anyways, I kinda dislike a totally different thing than Vegeta in Transformers. I actually think that Michael Bay CAN'T do action scenes. Yes, that's what he LOVES to do, that's what he always does, but I just don't like how he shots action scenes like the cameraman is having a seizure. They are really hard to follow.

On the other hand, I surprisingly liked some other "dramatic" moments of the film. For example, when Bumblebee is captured by Sector 7. He shot that scenes with great angles and he cut off the sound leaving only the music which was really good for adding emotion to it.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Transformers. I just didn't think it was super great.

And I can see what you're talking about rjxsapri with the way Bay shoots action sequences. I guess what I was referring to when I said he was the king of big action sequences was the explosion value of them. Not so much the cinematography. Though I do think his style worked well with this particular film I do like a bit more of a steady camera.

Thx for the review, read it after seeing it.

Must say i liked the movie, only real minus to me was the to much Hollywood scenes... But oh well it's an american movie afterall.

I'd say the greatest supprise to e in this movie was the humor :D

CGI was really good, but knew that from the trailers, atleast Megatron looked better in the movie then on the sketches(mainly talking about the mouth)

Would had loived to see 30 min of real transformer war though with perhaps 5 billion vs 5 billion transformers insted of 5 v 5 B)

Just saw it today, easily the best movie I've seen all summer although I haven't seen Die Hard yet (I'll see that on Monday).

I liked the movie... and yes, I went into the movie just hoping for some big robots blowing sh*t up. Which has its merits!

I absolutely agree on the graphics. I kept thinking "oh my god, how much money did they PUT into this?!" All the transformers were so detailed!

All the tranforming scenes made me so dizzy because the camera's spinning around, wheels are spinning, everything's rotating... seriously, it was nauseating. I ended up with a massive headache by the end of the movie.. The camera itself was fairly steady compared to a movie like.. Children of Men, or something. :P

So I think it was pretty good, except for the fact that I'm more of a Beast Wars fan than Transformers. (But I don't think Beast Wars could ever be done in a movie well.)

Well to be honest, it was waaay better than I was expecting. I highly enjoyed the film. Only thing was, the fight scenes were so fast I had a hard time digesting them, and knowing what the hell was going on. The humor in it was a nice touch, and not over the top.

Bumblebee was awesome. :D

EDIT: Question!? Why the f*ck did Linkin Park have to have the closing song?

No they can make a good Beast Wars movie. It's just that the only human in it will be that caveman that saw Dinobot die. :P A Beast Wars movie with the same effects as Transformers would be awesome though.

Anyways, Transformers was kick ass, excellent movie. I enjoyed the almost non stop action and it was good enough for Transformer fans to love and good enough for new fans to appreciate it as well. Can't wait for the sequel already.

I thought this movie just plain rocked. I knew the action would be intense, so I sat a little farther back in the theater than I usually do, so I could see more of the screen at once. I loved Sam's relationship with Bumblebee. They played the love angle with Mikaela just right so it didn't interfere with Sam's bonding with his car. By the end of the movie I wanted to just hug Bumblebee myself!

I also like how they added modern elements to the story by having them find Sam through his Ebay seller account. That was pretty funny too. Also Sam thinking that the robots were from Japan. Now you know Sam's a geek and maybe even an anime fan, so you gotta love him.

The part at the Hoover Dam was unreal for me. I had been there myself about 5 years ago and it really blew me away that Shia was standing and looking down at the dam on the exact spot where I stood and looked down. Looking over the edge is a requirement almost. No one can go there and not look down.

From what I have been reading, they're getting ready for movie 2 very soon. I hope they film this one in IMAX, the first one would have been great on the huge screen, but I appreciate Michael Bay wanting to spend his budget wisely on the right things in the film. Smart man.
