This is a thread where we can put down who we think should do the score for the film, what kind of score the film should have, and so on and so forth. Those that know anything about films know that sound is one of THE most important parts of a great film. And a great score can not only make or break a film. But allow it to withstand the tests of time, and become an epic. Personally I feel that an orchestral score would be the best decision for this type of film. A lot of people I've heard would want popular rock/pop music in it. But the problem with that is it dates the film. So in 10 years time the film will seem outdated. That's not saying there can't still be some heavy guitars to have a bit of rock feel. But just mixed in with an orchestra. Best example is the Tran-Syberian Orchestra. A good composed orchestral score accompanied by a great story and good directing, I think could elevate the Dragonball franchise to historical levels. Discuss. |

Orchestral All the way, Hopefully Hans Zimmer, or John Williams. I also think an Orchestral Version of some of the Original Japanese and Bruce Faulconer songs would be cool. |

Mix of orchestra and heavy instrumental rock. Kind of like 300. Some parts just need to be badass. :thumb: |

The team of Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt. Zimmer has shown the diversity you need. He can do the potent orchestrations typical of big blockbuster epic films (Chevaliers De Sangreal from The Da Vinci Code, most of Pirates of the Caribbean, Pearl Harbor), he can do beautiful, eloquent, and exotic scores (Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, The Last Samurai, Black Hawk Down), dark and somwhat urban scores (Batman Begins), Disney and Disney-esque musicals (The Lion King, The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, Madagascar), and your classics (Crimson Tide, Thelma & Louise, Rain Man, The Lion King again). Danny Elfman has made some of my favorite scores of all time (Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands), but he's been real hit-or-miss for me the past few years. Besides, he's best within the goth/fairy tale scene, and when he strays you get "not bad but nothing too memorable" like the Spider-Man score. And John Williams has been a bit formulaic recently. Haven't heard anything truly memorable from him since Prisoner of Azkaban and maybe The Terminal. |

I agree with Zimmer and Williams as good choices. I loved the score from Jurassic Park, especially the way he conducted the reprise of the main theme over the scene where Dr. Grant first sees the dinos. It made it feel like you just walked into God's paradise and the music made that scene perfect. It lifted you up so high that when things went wrong later on, it made the terror even worse. That's what a good musical score can do for a film. It acts like punctuation for the visuals of each scene and William's work definitely does that. I have two more I would like to add to the list. First is Michael Kamen. Not only did he write the scores for the Die Hard series and the Leathal Weapon series. he also wrote lovely scores for Band of Brothers (TV) and Mr. Holland's Opus. He also did the score for Iron Giant and X-Men and Conducted the Phillidelpha Sympony Orchestra in concert with Metallica. I think he may do well with a DBZ score. Action music, touching music where needed and a touch of irreverent rock where needed. The next is Howard Shore. He composed the score for Lord of the Rings and The Aviator. Both wonderful works. He wrote some fun dramatic pieces for Dogma and the score for the Cell and Philadelphia. Both of those works were well woven into the stories and accented them beautifully. I think he would also do a fine job with a DBZ score. |

He also did Ed Wood I believe. Another name is Michael Giacchino. He does the score for the Medal of Honor series (2002's Medal of Honor: Frontline having one of the best video game scores I've ever heard). You may think that the guy can only do video game soundtracks, but you'd be wrong. The Medal of Honor score is already more movie-like than many movies. |

I think you would need something along the lines of TOOL, a sort of tribal hard rock sound to show the effects and combat of really well. Also people seem to be focusing on how BIG a movie Dragonball would be but seem to be forgetting its Japanese origin. I mean there is such a thing as making a movie too epic and focusing too much on fighting and effects instead of the story being told, which is the story of Goku coming to understanding with his race. I think the movie would only work when this is released, but hey others might see things differently...! :ninja: Love RetRo Zombie X :ninja: Oh I gotta site for people to sign their names in the forum with a reason for a LAM DBZ movie or movies to be made, as when I E-mailed FOX I was told of 'too low a fan-following to generate a worthy box-office revenue' the site addy is: www.freewebs.com/dragonballzthemovie Thanks for your time...! |

I totally agree with you that story need to be the first and main focus on the movie. They have to figure out the right way to adapt the story to live action. They aren't going to be able to take it directly from the pages. Everything just won't work. I'm all about movies having great plots. But anyway, this thread is about music. I still think orchestral score is the very best choice. You can have it made with rock stylings. But I don't think they should include any bands in the film. |

I think Dragon ball Z should have a real techno sound to it. Like if you listen to the intro of Common's finding forever, it was like classical mixed with techno, and it sound great! |
