Well, those of you who frequent the IMDB Speed Racer boards, might already know that this seems to be what's dividing most people who expected this movie.

Some seem to have expected this movie to be a somber, gritty movie like Batman Begins. What they don't seem to think about is that this is going to be a movie about a race car driver whose name is Speed Racer, in which is car drives on walls and jumps and does all sorts of things, and in which there are characters with names such as Trixie, Spritle, Chim-Chim, Rex Racer and Inspector Detector. They also seem to forget that this was an anime aimed at boys below 10 years of age but with themes of family values and ethics that if adapted correctly, could interest older viewers.

I think it DOES look kiddie, but it is supposed to be. I think this is going to be the kind of kiddie movie that attracts a lot of adult-viewers, because it has enough elements to do so.

I'm not sure I'd say kiddie. But its a very colorful movie. People seem to think if a movie isn't dark and gritty anymore it can't be for adults.

Judging by the quick bursts of gun fire fights and some martial arts fighting sequences in the trailer, I'd say they'll be enough to satisfy the adults.

And I don't really see the Wachowski's making a kiddie movie.

I like the look of the movie. It's very colorful, but I also don't think "kiddie" is the best word. It's definately got a tougher side with the confrontations which take place. Actually, the movie SORT OF reminds me of the live action adaption of the anime, "Inital D" which is about drag racing. I think this movie might not be the typical American "family film" but definately one that is encouraged for all to see. :)

Hm, honestly i really think it should be PG-13, just for the sake of you know....alot of people under the age of what....14....dont have a clue what speed racer is, and if they did, it was because of that weird speed racer cartoon, cartoon network did about 3 or 4 years ago....Chances are....after the movie, most likely you would say they bring back the show? That should be for the kids, not this movie....like the alvin and the chipmunks movie, i know alot of people know who they are but im pretty sure that movie was to bring back memories of the people who used to watch the show and stuff.....you know?
Something here soon.

I agree.. The only kid parts in the movie would be Chim-Chim and Sprite or whatever the little kid's name is. I couldn't see The Matrix Dude making a non-adult film. I also like Sally Fields as Ma Racer! =D I'm so downl--- uhh... going to see it in the theaters when it comes out! =D

I don't think that it's "too kiddie" at all. It's SPEED RACER for goodness sakes. It's supposed to look like a cartoon come to life, and judging from the trailer thats exactly what it will be. As for the 'G' rating (I'm pretty sure that's what it'll be rated anyway), I'm fine with that as well, because again, it's speed racer, a 'G' rating is all you really need.
never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Then again, things like G movies now a-days are full of dirty innuendos and stuff XD...and besides, its probably to remind the "older" generation of what they used to watch.
Something here soon.
