It's no secret that this forum isn't the biggest place online. I really don't mean to make this a big deal or anything, but I've been wondering about this for a while and talked to a few people about it but just wanted to know if you guys plan on making any big changes in staff. Personally, I feel like we have too many. Some of which barely come on here, and others who don't do anything with their powers at all (like it's only there for show). I know when I was given a position the first time, they basically said that if you weren't active or did your job, you'd be removed from staff. But yeah, 12 admins/g-mods for a forum of less than 1000? I mean, we have always had a pretty large staff but is it really necessary?

I really hope I didn't offend anyone or make anyone feel like they were being singled out. Definitely not what I'm trying to do here. Just always wondered why we have so many on our little forum and why we have some who don't really do much. :animesweat:

i believe most of our current staff do their job pretty well (sans aaron :P) so i think we can condone a large staff, especially due to our whole website thing we have

I agree actually. I'm sure the rest of the staff appreciates your candor as I do, Maf. I can understand that outwardly it may seem that way, especially for me, since I haven't really had much to do lately, however I know I still come on daily to make sure there aren't any problems going. Much of the staff work is being done within the Staff board in the form of brainstorming and dealing with problems that arise. I believe that having as many staff members as we do helps gather a good sample of opinions in decision that affect the board, rather than having one or two people making all the choices. It makes for diverse ideas as well as letting cooler heads prevail when a personal conflict may cloud one person's judgement.

I don't really see it as a problem with too much staff (even though we only have a few active members at the moment) but the fact that it seems that the amount of administrators compared to the amount of global moderators is a bit much.

And there are people on staff who aren't even active.

Vindictive
1) disposed to seek revenge; intended for or involving revenge: (VENGEFUL)
2) intended to cause anguish or hurt: (SPITEFUL)

Well, I don't know what goes on in the staff section or behind the scene so I can't really say much about that. Things may have changed since when I was on staff cuz not much went on there. But yeah, there are forums out there with a lot more members than us yet still have less staff members than we do. I'm sure if they can pull that off, we can as well.

The fact that some of the staff members are also regular mods for certain sections of the forum seems odd to me too. Again, I know it's always been like that but if one is an admin or g-mod, why give that person a mod title as well? It's not like powers would be different for that one place.

And I'm not saying leave only a few staff members. Maybe like 4 admins, and 5 or 6 global mods.

Also, people can still help with certain things without being on the staff. It's been done before and happens a lot really.

I agree with Noodles and Stryyder on this. You have to consider, Maffy, that many of our staff members have very busy lives outside this message board. If we were to take away the powers of even 2 or 3 of them, that would mean more work for the ones that are left, and considering their lifestyles, they might not be able to cope with it.

I also agree with what Stryyder said about giving the advantage of having a wide variety of opinions. I would also like to add that there's nothing to fear about the staff hacking the site or anything because all of the staff are long-standing and respected members. Also, when we first started here as liveactionanime, I gave everyone some guidelines on how to protect their password.

EDIT: Crap, this was written by RJ. I didn't notice that Cait was still signed on...><

Ahahah! Finally someone feels my pain! Yeah, Rider and I used to do that all the time.

But yeah, we are discussing this in the staff board (deciding whether to fill the open Gmod spot) and I'll share what I put there. I understand about "more members = more staff" but I'm not sure I agree entirely. I've seen boards with only a few staff work as well, but I've also seen big boards with big staff totally bomb. I personally think that we have found a system that works. Rather than our staff being a bunch of "leaders" that oversee the board it is more social. We are active members of the forum, not trying to rise above the other members, and we operate as a "board of directors" would. Truthfully the only difference that I have observed between admins and gmods is that the gmods can't directly adjust warning levels or do any of the board maintenance (changing names, creating/deleting boards etc.) I'm trying not to rant, as it could seem like I'm trying to "prove I'm right", this is just my opinion. If anyone feels that we are abusing our powers, or acting as if we are bigger than we actually are, I have no problem hearing those complaints and will attempt to rectify the situation. Anyways,...um yeah.

(I suck at ending big rants)

Staff is pretty good right now. We have the amount we do because as some people get busy or distracted or lose passion and phase out, others come back in to fill the niche.

For example, Amanz phased out due to problems and guys like Noodles and Stryyder phased in. Mune-Man and Mirai were out of commission for a while but they're making a comeback. People just keep bouncing in and out really.

Most of the inefficiency comes from the lack of a tech-savvy staff and convoluted communication.

I think the only problem with staff is their stubborn refusal to share any info on forum changes 'cos they're so obssessed with 'suprising' us... *glares at Del*

I've long given up on the surprising thing after the bad feedback. I didn't expect people to get so pissed off
