When I first started watching DBZ 9 years ago on the WB when I was in 7th grade, I loved the voice overs and how well they were done. The voices of Ian Corlett (Goku) and Brian Drummond (Vegeta) just seemed so cool. Then when the Ginyu and Freeza saga came out I was like "WTF did they do with all the cool voices?". Little did I know that they had been changed over to a knew group of voice actors hired by Funimation.

Personally I prefer Ocean dubbing because the voices just sound way cooler and more menacing.

What is everyone elses opinion?

For those of you who aren't sure about the difference this will help:

Vegeta's Final Flash (Ocean Dub)

Vegeta's Final Flash (Funimation Dub)

I think early on, the Ocean dub was great but they got progressively worse as the series continued and I thought they were pretty bad by the end. Yet the opposite happened with Funimation's dub, it was bad initially, got a lot better by the end and I think turned out better overall. The music in Funi's dub was tons better too, I think Faulconer did a good job composing music that fit well with the series. While I think Funimation's dub is better then Ocean's, they've both got nothing on the UK dub done by the AB Groupe. Take a look:

What are you smoking anyway? The Funi dub is world's better than the Ocean dub. I want my 5 1/2 minutes back I wasted watching the first clip. Yeesh! Sound effects, editing, music and voice timing all better in the Funi dub. Plus in the Ocean dub Cell sounds as menacing as an insurance salesman and don't get me started on Krillen. Sonny Strait just simply rocks. I also worship at the shine of Chris Sabat as well. Despite the fact that Funi cut a lot of things out (mostly because of stupid broadcast rules) they still have the best dub of any of them. Although I do find the Spanish dubs amusing and well done.

Trivia: Did yuou know that in the original Japanese episodes the proper name for that move is the "Sayonara Flash? Yep, Bye-bye! Lol!

You right, that UK dub is hilarious. What were they thinking when they hired that guy to voice Goku? I know this might be a stupid question, but if this was dubbed in the UK, why do they sound American and not British? Now that would have been hilarious! I can hear King Kai now, "I say, Goku old man.'

Heres on that compares 6 different languages. English, Japanese, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. I think they all did a pretty good job. Also you can find out what Vegeta's name is in all of them too.

Sabat rocks, but his Vegeta sometimes sounds too much like his Piccolo...if Piccolo had been kicked in the balls (do Nameks have balls...and no I don't mean Dragon Balls...hmm... :P)

As for the overall question...I prefer the Funi dub, but I think what really clinches it is the music.

I know this is blasphemy...but I actually prefer Faulconer's score to the Japanese score. I find the Japanese score too...I dunno, childish...even in serious moments.

I suppose I'm going to hell for saying that  bt while Faulconer's score certainly isn't perfect, it does have some awesome themes. SSJ Vegeta, Gohans transformation...epic themes for epic moments...and then there's Super Buu, which might be the best theme of them all.

That score, coupled with the superior voice acting, puts it far above Ocean. It's not perfect. I'm not too fond of some of the voice acting from Funi...Goku sounds so annoying.

Of all the dubs I've seen in all different languages, this is how I rank them:

1. Spanish (Latin America)
2. Italian
3. Japanese
3. German
4. Portuguese
5. English (Funi)
6. Spanish (Europe)
7. English (Ocean)
8. French

I think the audio for the Latin American Spanish dub that was on the video that Vegetasgirl posted wasn't very good. Here's another clip from the DBZ Spanish dub. I know that many people here don't like it but I think the voices sound waaay less forced than in the English dubs. I also think Cell's voice is great :P

DEFINITELY Funimation! :) I actually have half the series of the Ocean dub though which I taped back when it was the first to air before Funi's(it's amazing how old those are>_> lol). So since I've heard both for a very long time I have to still say Funi is better. Funi has better music then Ocean. Their music wasn't bad but not as good as Funi's on my opinion. The Japanese music is funny and light hearted but most of the time it seemed like it had no soundtrack but the opening songs for what I can remember. Also Goku and his sons, even when they are older sound like girls, lol. Why they picked a girl to do them I have no idea. I'd understand when they were little but whatev. I've also heard other languages but wasn't very impressed.

Funi's got the best music and voice acting of them all. The Ocean dub of Vegeta sounded like a nerd w/ a really bad nasal problem, lol. It was funny to watch though when he came in the beginning, he seemed to be a few inches smaller and a really thin neck. Brings back memories, lol^^

Also, Funi has the best and my favorite voice actors & actresses^^ Go Christopher R. Sabat!

Cool! Another member of the Chris Sabat fan club. I got to meet him last year at the Orlando con. I met Sonny Strait too. He's really sweet. Funi's VAs really are the best.
