I suppose...

But at the same time, I think about all of the other campy/fun movies- Charlie's Angels, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, the continuing of the Austin Powers movies, The [New] Pink Panther... even Star Wars is considered to be, at times, campy.

BUT at the same times, some of those movies are disliked by movie-goers for that reason. I guess my problem with this movie is that it gets away with being campy, while all of the others didn't.

Because while they were meant to be goofy and cheesy, they weren't on the scale of literally being a live-action cartoon.

It doesn't matter. Campy is campy.

And how about the Scooby Doo movies they came out with? I am sure that they were pretty bad. But hey- they were a "live action cartoon."

I think he meant that Speed Racer was a live action cartoon in the way it was made. Scooby Doo was a movie based on a cartoon, but it wasn't filmed as a LIVE ACTION CARTOON.

Being campy or not is not really a reason to like or dislike a film. Many critics who hated Scooby Doo loved Shaolin s*ccer, Kung Fu Hustle or Spy Kids.

And Scooby Doo, well, that movie had terrible writing (it CAN'T be compared with Speed Racer) with horrible attempts at humor, and also, it didn't benefit from any visuals or story like Speed Racer did.

The writing was a little better in Speed Racer, I will admit that.

Don't worry Maf, I liked the old Van Damme Street Fighter. Sad that such a low key movie was the end of Raul Julia's career but he was great in that movie.

I also liked Scooby Doo. For the same reason as people like Speed Racer, I guess. Of course you'll have bad writing, the writing in the Scooby cartoons was horrible.

I agree that saying the box office was down isn't the same as the audience hating it. It would be more accurate to say that people aren't interested in it, for that reason. And it wasn't a decision between Iron Man and this, Iron Man has been out for a week already.

I know, but not everyone went to see Iron Man during the first week. So people who went to the theaters last weekend had to decide between a movie that everyone was saying they loved and had done well with critics, or a movie that everyone was saying looked stupid (even without seeing it) and did bad with critics. Not to mention that Iron Man was the most awaited movie in a long time, and it got positive word-of-mouth appraisal. Also, Prince Caspian comes out next week and that's a movie many other people have been waiting for (it's predicted by many analysts to be the second-highest grossing film of the year). Many other people also preferred to go see Iron Man a second time. I think it's easy to say that Iron Man was a strong competition. I mean, not everyone goes to see movies every single weekend, or those who do go see a movie that opened that same weekend.

And while some people probably did like Scooby Doo because of how campy it was, that isn't the reason that I liked Speed Racer. The only thing is that I don't think being campy can be seen as a flaw in Speed Racer as it can in other movies.

And to let you in a secret...the old Street Fighter movie has always been one of my guilty pleasures...hehehe.

This seems like the best place to put up this review that I also put up on Facebook:

Do you know what I hate? When people say that a movie sucks, and then you ask them what their least favorite part was and they say "I don't know, I only saw the trailers." This is the response I got when I asked everybody if they saw Speed Racer. I replied that it was one of the best movies I'd seen in the pat few years, better than Iron Man, and that I'd go out of my way to see it again, which I wouldn't do for Iron Man. That's how much I loved Speed Racer. And I loved Iron Man just as much as anybody else. I just loved Speed Racer more. The visuals were outstanding. The racing scenes were spectacular, I was sitting at the edge of my seat for most of the film. I loved this movie and can not recommend it more. I give it six Kuhans out of five

I don't care about critics.
me neither, critics are supposed to provide constructive criticism not their constructive opinioin. i watch movies for entertainment, ideas, philosophy and most importantly their true meaning. Thats what i like with the Wacheski Bros. the stories they tell have layers and u really have to look deeper into the story to find its core, the truth. :studious: :studious:

Once again- I saw the movie, and didn't like it.

Not because of the critics.

Look at it this way- Hancock didn't get good reviews. BUT, people still went and saw it. I went and saw it, even after hearing the bad reviews, and I still liked it.

A good lot of people know what they will or won't like. And I've had a discussion with other people about this as well, and they say the same thing.

You can't blame the critics for everything.
