This was the review I gave earlier in the thread.

Quote:

Like Rob said, we saw it. I didn't enjoy it as much as he did. Some of the scenes were good (and some just hilarious) but for the better part of the time, Phoebe and I would look at each other and whisper, "This movie is so damn long."

And whenever I say that, that means that the movie hasn't really kept me interested. Yeah, the effects were cool (I actually didn't mind the cartoonish landscape and what not. I thought I wouldn't like it, but it matched well with the tone of the movie) and some of the characters were good (love X). But it seemed like some of the scenes were forced, and some were just random.

SPOILER

Throughout the movie, I was waiting for Speed and Sparky to hold a conversation with one another (and it didn't happen) and then at the end, the two of them embraced one another and got all emotional. If I were someone who had never watched the anime, I wouldn't have understood wtf that was about.

It may have been a good adaptation, but as a movie, there were a few things that I can point out that didn't make it so great. Character development could have been better for some of the characters, of course the campiness (I know it was like that in the anime, but critics are critics, and I didn't like that about the anime anyway), you couldn't take it seriously (laughed at dramatic moments), and at some points, the special effects disorientated me to where I didn't know what I was looking at.

2.5/5 for me.

I just noticed that Vgirl said that some of the action sequences in Transformers were blurry and that you could see everything in Speed Racer. I feel the exact opposite of that statement, lol.

very true, they dont elaborate enough to prove theyve really understood. Most of themm only see the movie once. But when it comes to the W.Bros u'v gotta sit alone and watch it a few times from beginning to end.

@L.O.D
Well i never saw the anime either, i grew up with Terminator,TMNT,POwer Rangers,Rambo and then later on Digimon and Pokemon.
But when i saw the movie, it wasnt really about the anime. They didnt make a movie for the fans they made another Matrix movie. THe matrix is rooted to Plato's Cave, V for Vendetta- Art, Speed Racer- Matrix+Vendetta. I dont expect u to understand what i mean, u probally watched the movie for entertainment like everyone else did. But because i'm heading for filmmaking this stuff is important to me (its my religion), its the kind of knowledge u have to learn on ur own. No professor or text will teach it to you.

Allegory of the cave? Yes, I know all about it- I learned from a widely praised Philosophy professor, and I knew about it for a while. And while I understand how it relates to The Matrix, I don't think it has anything to do with Speed Racer. There wasn't anything truly philosophical about this movie. Corporate greed- that's all I got.

speed racer had much more than that.

This system that we live in, the politicans (forms of control) are the sentials. Religion and Politics are best of friends they have been the sentials that try to overcome the "Artist". The only being powerful enough to overcome them, because the artist does not draw power from a god or capital. Their power comes from a source much more rich and much more powerful.

Speed is an artist, Royaltan seeks to absorb Speed so that Speed wound overcome him. This isnt just an idea or concept its reality, today in the world that we call real, the only way the "artist" can survive is to become a part of the system. To submit their labor for capital, becuse without it they cannot exists.

Vegeta's short film titled "Simon Frost", is a simple example.

When Racer X was talking to speed he said this
'Everyone of us has to find a reason to do this, u dont climb into T-180 to be a driver u do it because ur driven"

Racer X to Taj
"The only way u'll ever stop these people is to bring them to justice"

Btw ever wonder why we dont have our own superheros?

Religion wouldnt allow it because the superhero is a symbol of hope, they;re would be no need to believe in a god when its the superhero who watches over.

Politicans know the only being that can bring them to justic is the superhero, in other words the "artist".

Remember when that DaVinci Code book and movie came out, stirred up alot of trouble.

Dont take this the wrong way, i'm not trying to insult or offend u. :D :D

While I appreciate how much you considered in this movie, I still don't agree that this movie is special because of it. In almost every movie, there is the small guy against the big bad guy.

And guess what- what you say about religion being the reason why we have no superheroes... I don't agree. We don't have superheroes because no one can fly, no one has super human strength, and because the real world isn't like the movies. In the movies, wealthy men sometimes have huge hearts as well as the brains to match, and they can build super suits so they can stop insane villains.

In the real world, we have the police, firefighters, national guard, and so on and so forth. People without superhuman abilities that risk their lives to save/help their fellow man. I appreciate them a little more :maffy:

but i never said anything about superheros having super strength or suits.

I mentioned the superhero because they share similar traits with that of an "artist", and which is why i mentioned Vegeta's short film. He is an "artist".

Whats to say whats real or not, u said u know of the cave. So why is this world the real world.

insane villains=Government & Religion. They have commited crimes beyond that of the movies. Crimes that which some were documented and some were not.

police, firefighters, national guard=servants. yea they may want to save lives, but they are still part of the system, they act upon orders. Orders from the insane villans.

It doesnt matter if u dont agree, its ok. Many people wont.

In the movie, corporate man paid the race association de discredit the Racer family and make sure that he everyone would hate him.

In the real life, corporate man paid Rotten Tomatoes to discredit Speed Racer and make sure nobody would pay to see it in a theatre

So ironic
