I was reading somewhere that Saiya-jin means either Ape or Monkey Person. Or someone some how translated it into Monkey God. I find this interesting.. lol

Saiya = Monkey
Jin = God

Well, Jin is person, and I guess Saiya is Monkey, I'm not to sure, I'm not a Japanese speaker, so I'm probably not even close to being right.

Hope this doesn't get too confusing. Japanese is not easy. Here we go...

Jin indeed means person from or of. We use three in English "ian, er, ite" such as Bostonian or someone from Boston.

Saiya means disaster, so together they mean people of the disaster or loosely destroyers or warriors.

Saiyajin = Warrior people

Ah nice with the clarification.

Thought it was something about vegetables, since both there names and Planet was named after that.

Though looking at the Series Saint Saiya... Would had been kinda weird had it been about vegetables.

Can Jin be translated to species as well?

Also Cro Saru is= Monky(not sure of the spelling)
And OhuSaru= King Monkey aka Monkey King

I suppose it could be from a species as well. Jin is a preposition not a noun.

Trivia note; Toriyama named Saiyans after veggies and main characters after food and so forth as a way of remembering all the character's names. There were dozens of characters in just Dragonball alone, not counting Z and he needed a way to keep track of them all. His studio is in his house, so everyone got group names from common things you'd find around the house. Lol!

It's ok. It's not an easy language to figure out If I get stuck or need help I have a dictionary server I use thats really good. Here's the link: http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/tty/dict

osuzaru means male monkey. By changing the su to another O it changes it from male to huge monkey or Oozaru. There's yer monkey reference.

though there is the translation of "jin" that does mean genie or god.... more or less there are two types of jin ((technically there are 347, AVATAR REF FTW)) but seriously there is the prepostion form of "jin" and the noun form..

Prep ex: saiya-jin
saiya people

Noun ex: ma-jin buu
demon-genie buu (( which fits wit how he comes out in smoke and stuff))

so hope that clears that up

I think your getting it confused with the jin or gin from the middle east which is a male genie. In order for it to refer to a god or gods, the kanji for "gi' must be added as in jingi which means gods of heaven and earth. The word Majin is made up of, of course jin for person and the kanji 'majinai" which means spell, charm or incantation thus Majin or person from magic.

A demon would still be considered a magical being. However the person who wrote the article is mixing his languages. Mazinger Z is in German not Japanese. Majin has nothing to do with Mazin, two different languages. Mazinkaiser means mechanical emperor in German. The Japanese also tend to misspell other languages to get them to conform to the way they pronounce a word. There is no translation for computer, for example, so the use the English word and spell it konpyuutaa because that's the way they pronounce it. It's called Japlish. Their language uses words from dozens of different languages just like ours does and we change the spellings too for convenience as well.

The sword, Majinken is ken in this case meaning Item, so it's not Demon God Sword but item of magic or magic sword. The Yu-Gi-Oh reference is an obvious misspelling as most of the card names are so that it mixes majin with jinn to get the genie on the card. It's more or less a Japanese pun. This is why you should always crosscheck anything you read on Wiki. The entire article is about 20% right. If he got all this stuff from translated sources, the names of things and such, it's the translator's license to give things spiffy names when they don't exist. Could you imagine reading the line "I'm going to kill you with my magical sword item"? Lol! Had to give it some sort of cool name.

either way zesh, youve been owned on pseudoknowledge by her real knowledge.

i'd have thought that intuition on jin would have produced the correct train of thought, what with NihonJIN (japanese)

ah i know a little bit of stuff

well you are correct my psuedo-knowlede on the subject was surassed in this case.. but i did know about the japanese jin, i was explaining my personal thoughts and theories... technically we never learned about the saiya-jin people ever haveing any other countries or nationalities on their planet so naturally they refered to people from that planet (( the saiya race)) saiya-jin. If we were to find out that they had different nationalities (( they would still be saiya-jin)) we would have other types of names we could call them...
