According to an announcement from VIZ Media, they have opened a new company just for producing American live action films from the anime in their stables. I for one welcome our new live action anime overloads and can't wait to see Inuyasha large and in charge on the big screen and I know quite a few of you will be chomping at the bit for others on that list you've been fapping to in your deepest fantasies!

Quote:

VIZ Media has launched a new wholly-owned Hollywood-based company named VIZ Productions to produce and license live-action theatrical film and TV projects based on animated and manga series, incuding properties its Japanese parent companies Shogakukan, Inc. and Shueisha, Inc., as Hakusensha.

VIZ Productions will also serve as liaison between Japanese creative licensors and Hollywood production houses, studios and agents and plans to produce or license live action films covering a wide range of graphic novel genres.

Jason Hoffs, formerly of Dreamworks, will assume the role of Head of Production.

Viz has specifically mentioned titles
Naruto
Bleach
Death Note
Inuyasha
Naoki Urasawa’s Monster

Variety adds Vampire Knight

The Madness has begun! The legacy of anime as we know it is DOOMED!!

xD

But seriously, do they have the assets, besides the anime rights, to pull of such a thing? Perhaps I'm confused but it sound to me like they're going to produce Americanized versions--LIVE ACTION NO LESS--of anime they've dubbed or are currently dubbing. I like the idea but somehow it just don't sit right with me.

Naruto and Bleach aren't even finished yet. Though I wouldn't mind seeing how they would turn out live action. :maffy:

I'd be worried because in Naruto, the characters are not American. I wonder how they'll go about doing that...

They aren't anything really. It's an alternate universe.

OMG A One Piece live action movie will be so epic if they do it right. And they'll need more than one film to do the whole series. At least 6..... :teehee:

Zac Efron for Luffy! With his dance background he should be able to handle those pesky "Gum-Gum" scenes, if they can get him away from Disney that is. He can't do musicals forever.

Omnia enim stolidi magis admirantur amantque,
inversis quae sub verbis latitantia cernunt,
veraque constituunt quae belle tangere possunt
auris et lepido quae sunt fucata sonore.

Indeed, the stupid most admire and love all
that is scarcely discernible, hidden by abstruse words,
and accept as true all things that sweetly caress
the ear, and that are masked by a pleasant sound.

He would have to prove his goofyness first. :faceofsomekind:

That Chatwin guy who's playing Goku looks so much like Zoro imo.

But after playing Goku, I'm sure it would be hard for people to accept him as the serious Zoro. :maffy:

wow, aside from monster, death note, and bleach at a stretch this is perhaps the least sensible lineup to look at.

In fact, choices that would make more sense would surely be Beet, Black Cat, Ruroken, Shaman King, Zombie Powder, Buso Renkin, Kurohime, or Ranma/Maison Ikkoku for the less shonen jump thing.

although the only high sellers of those are Black Cat, Ruroken, Buso Renkin, Ranma, and Ikkoku, so half of those don't count for nowt

Bleach live action???
Did they just mention Bleach LIVE ACTION
They surely couldn't intend to do what the auther of the series said couldn't be made into a movie.

Bleach as a movie... Yes Please, BLeach as a live action... I'd give that a 5-10% chance of delivering.
Make an all CGI movie 10 years from now... Yes thank you for delivering my dream(Hopefully)

...Indie That sugestion list is much much better. ;)
Zombie Powder live action with the right actors... :awe: :awe: :awe:

True, like there are some comic books that wouldn't translate well. However you know they are going to pick the ones that are the most popular with the mainstream Adult Swim crowd to do first. They have to bank up some heavy cash first to try and make some of those that have a smaller more serious following.

I'm not familiar with at least four of the titles on Noodles list, so I'm personally not sure how good they would be and if I would want to see them or not. I'm sure that holds true for others and other titles as well. I think that like Marvel and DC they would have to show they can make quality films first, then they could get a box office draw to more unique anime down the road based on their reputation.

I see Cowboy Bebop got it's own forum and I predict that we will be seeing more new forums in the LAM block very soon. The dream team threads alone will be worth it.

This is a good list here. You're right, movies of Black Cat, Rurouni Kenshin, even Shaman King would be better than Naruto. Even though I love Naruto, I think it would be the least successful in translating it to a live action movie. RuroKen would be perfect though.

Don't know about Buso Renkin though. I enjoyed the manga plenty, but I think RuroKen would be the better of Watsuki's works to go with, it has a much more deep history behind it.

Zombie Powder could be bad ass though, and I honestly think Hunter X Hunter would be too if done right. This announcement just has all my gears turning now.
