Avis In Wmm

Yes, I've already searched several more techinical, devoted sites. Problem is, they require you to, firstly, be fluent in geek and, secondly, read a load of bullsh*te 'witty' pre-amble before getting to the point.
My problem is this. I've got full episodes of One Piece, download via Torrent from Kaizoku. They're in AVI form. When I import them into WMM, it treats them as audio. I get the sound but no picture and when I go to clip properties, it thinks it's audio. Yes, I have Vista codecs that claim to rectify the problem, no they don't. Might be something to do with the whole 32bit/64bit compatability bollocks that's been thwarting me at every turn... but maybe it's something more mundane. Anyone have any ideas?
Failing that... anyone know a good, free program for making AMVs that won't give me so much jip?

QuickMediaConverter was suggested in one of the treads, and LUNA said that it works for her.
i dont know if it will solve your problem but i would try.
I think i got the same thing when i try to edit some stuff from my DVD Sony handycam.
Didn't get time to play with it so i dont know if it will work.
But let me know what happens.
later.

It says .AVI, but is it really? Sometimes downloaded files are not ehat they're labeled and that happens a lot with video. I've used identifier programs before and they can tell you a lot. I think DbzGokussj4 has the right idea about converting it to a file type WMM can read. I'm going to suggest you try TrID to find out what the real file type is. You may need that to convert the file.

Just download one of the many awesome "free" programs available out there, if you get my drift. I don't think you'd be opposed to that kind of thing.

Quick Media Converter sucks. The end product is messy and unusable.
Yes, VG, I'm sure it's AVI. I'm not that stupid.
And #483... no, I don't really get your drift. If you mean download some random freeware conversion program, no, I don't think I will. Most of those programs leave crap all over your computer, even if they aren't actually riddled with viruses.

Sorry, I tried to say ditch WMM and get a nice program that you'd normally have to pay for, but could obtain via downloading. So, technically it's "free." Adobe Premiere or something of that caliber.

Oh, I see. Well, if such a solution presents itself... those cracks and stuff can be hard to find though and can sometimes bring even more hassle.

The Vista version doesn't fix it.

Unfortunately, WMM, wonderful program that it is (/sarcasm) is very picky about its filetype input, and often will have adverse effects at output unless it is a pristine filesource.

I obviously don't approve of pirated material, but I can understand the aversion to paying for something you are only doing for fun. Best I can offer is to pick up Adobe Premier Elements. It's got much of what Premier pro has, all the basic functions you need, and it's only $99 of the shelf (less if you can find a used or "disc-only" copy). Final Cut makes a similar "downgraded" version for about the same price.

$99... wouldn't be too much in £s...
But I'm skint as f*ck at the moment and, as you say, I don't really want to go spending money on something I'm doing for fun.
I've been directed towards a program called VDub by the kind folks at AMV.org. That should allow me to convert and use my clips. So I'm gonna figure that out and have a crack at that.
If, of course, it goes well and I'm able to create some good stuff then I'll certainly consider getting a proper program for it as a present to myself.
Thanks for the input Stryyder.

At the moment... I think it'd put me back about £200.
