Sadly, I was in a training seminar last night and didn't get to watch the game. The Cleveland stadium crowd still makes me sad. It's a class franchise, but booing your own QB?

Honestly, I think Cleveland can come into Baltimore next week with new determination and take down the Ravens.

After the hard start on the Pitt/Was MNF game (failed squib kick and interception both leading to field goals in 4 min.) I was a little concerned about our chances. While Ben had a less than impressive first half (3/13 for 57yds) and sat out after halftime with a sore shoulder, Leftwich played better than I'd ever seen him play back in Jacksonville. He was alert, on the move and ready to play. Made a few mistakes, but with the outstanding job done by the defense, it was quite impressive to see them shut out Washington for 56 minutes.

The indy game is up in the air. Indy wants a win bad, they may be able to disrupt the Steelers, with Ben 5 seconds from an injury and Byron just coming into the season. We'll see what happens.

A couple things jumped out at me when Leftwich came out and did so impressively. First and most noticeably was, Leftwich got rid of the ball QUICKLY! Whereas Ben is holding onto the ball way too long to try to make something happen! The whole year as I watched, I was placing a lot of blame on Arians and the Offensive line, and no the line or Arians still aren't doing too hot, but Ben is causing a lot of problems as well. I'm willing to believe our sacks allowed this year would be down by near half if Ben had just made hastier decisions. Teams already knew this about Ben and knew how to exploit it, just bring pressure(or simulate pressure). What Leftwich managed to do was recognize his checkdowns and get them the ball, thus making the defense ease up on their blitzing. It also seems Ben has lost some zip in his throwing, and I wouldn't be surprised if his shoulder has been bothering him since the Texans game. I'm in favor of Leftwich starting a couple weeks so Ben can heal up and maybe realize there are some adjustments he needs to make to his game. I'd rather have him ready for a playoff stretch then have him risk further injury this early.

The Indy game doesn't scare me too much, overall their defense is pretty poor, and especially their run stopping ability. Against them I believe the offensive gameplan should be run, run, run. Even though Parker is injured and appears to be out for the game, I feel Moore has been exceptional as a fill-in and gives us a nice checkdown option in passing plays. Their passing game is a threat, but if we play dominant defense like we've been all year, this will be an easy win.

Agreed on Ben. He has a great ability to move as the pocket closes around him, but that can only carry you so far. You need to get the ball down the field. Leftwich had the opposite problem in Jacksonville, he was good at recognizing the good route but stayed in one place, so the pocket collapsed on him. I think he's happy to have a better offensive line here than the one in Jax, so he still has that second or two more to get the ball off. Another problem that formed in the Washington game was the receivers. At least half of the 10 missed passes that Ben got off in the first half were indeed catchable and on target, but Holmes, Ward and Miller just couldn't quite keep their hands on it.

Even with their struggles this year, I'm just not ready to write off indy this season.

Definitely on the part about the receivers, I noticed Holmes especially. There were some missed opportunities due to dropped passes in the first half.

Normally I'm very hesitant and worried when we're about to face a high powered offense like the Colts, but I just feel oddly confident this time around. And not just because they're having an off season, it just feels different with them this year, like they're on the decline. But you're right, they're a hungry team right now and that makes them very dangerous. I'll set my expectations a little lower, I don't want to be let down too much if the Steelers lose it.

Well, since the last post Pitt has had victory snatched from their grasp by a last minute interception in the indy game, and then a marvelous game against San Diego. The defense was tight, Ben had amazing numbers, the Passing game looked near flawless, only had one problem, getting into the endzone (at least the one we were trying to get into). Both teams fought for every gained yard and the Steelers came out on top. SD made a valiant effort on their last play, rather than give up the ghost or just hail mary it like other teams would. I am rather disappointed they did not give Troy those 6 points though, he earned them in those last 5 seconds. 3 more days and then we welcome the 1-8-1 Cincinnatti Bungles back to Heinz field for their chance at revenge, coming off the first tie in the NFL since 2002.

I was not impressed with the Browns' win. Phil Dawson is the man though. Nailed that 56 yarder. :awe:

EDIT:

:NOWAI: :EHH?!:  :faceofsomekind:
Srsly? Throw Derek Anderson back in the game to add a 'spark'. Brady throws 2 INT in his THIRD career game, and you pull him. While Derek can throw 4 and Braylon Edwards can drop 20 passes and not be benched. I know Romeo said it wasn't because Brady threw those INTs.. it's all LIES, lies I tell ya!!
