New interview with MTV where Keanu Reeves talks about the role and developments.

“We’re taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series,” he explained, “and then we’ll deal with the end of the series. We’re trying to figure out [the time frame]. We’re looking at the story right now.”

UUUUUGH!

He's making it sound like, he has a major part in making it, and makes it sound like he's confident he's going to get the part. There goes my dream for a decent Bebop movie. Now I don't mean to sound negative, but anybody knows that when one of their least favorite, if not their least favorite actor is in a movie, it makes it harder to get into the movie. I'm still going to see, and it might be a good movie, but I'm still going to have negative feelings against it for casting Keanu f*cking Reeves and Spike, one of the most beloved anime characters.

Everybody else has expressed the same opinion that I have asked. :D Really though, I don't know whether to find this funny or sad. I mean, really, do we have to have Keanu as friggin Spike? Crap, let him be Vicious or something if he really wants to be in it, or better yet some bit character. I'd rather this go the way of some unknown/lesser known actors.

I DO mean to sound negative. Reeves as Spike is going to suck. They need to have James Franco come in, kick him in the head and say "No! ME!"

James Franco seems like an excellent choice. Keanu Reeves is a one-note actor that will not show audiences anything special about Spike.

While he does sound knowledgeable of the anime, and even passionate about it, I also don't trust him as Spike. Not to mention Fox will butcher the project even on the off-chance Keanu does a good job.

At best, he's fairly good (The Gift, The Devil's Advocate, Constantine, The Matrix, Hard Ball, Speed, Bill & Ted, Point Break, My Own Private Idaho, River's Edge) but he still doesn't have much range, even in his good performances.

At worst, well...

Should be someone like the aforementioned James Franco or Zach Levi as Spike.

It sucks that we can't do nuthin about it. I don't think they will butcher this film tho. DBZ was easy to butcher. Cowboy Bebop will be a lot harder.

I too agree with Franco as Spike. Although, I like the idea of Ryan Reynolds as Spike as well, not that it matters. :maffy:

it matters. I thought Ryan Reynolds was perfect. Until I thought of James Franco...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make a great Spike.

I most definitely agree!

I've only seen one pic of Keanu where he kind looks like spike and that's this one:

He can look like Spike all he wants, but can he act the part? The answer is "NO."

Ok, as far as I can tell the article said he "hoped" to play Spike, not that he officially had the role, so at this point the whole thing is still optional.

Volchok, I like the idea of Zach Levi as Spike, That could work. Not too fond of Franco though. I don't really like him as an actor. Seems like the only thing he does well is angst. He was just plain annoying in the Spiderman flicks and though he was "pretty" as Tristan, he seemed kind of flat. On a side note, I thought Rufus Sewell was wasted on that film. There had to be a ton of better roles out there for him to take.
