Metal Gear Solid (Sony PSX)
During a training mission on Shadow Moses in February of 2005, at a nuclear weapons facility on a remote island off the coast of Alaska, the Next-Generation Special Forces unit rebelled against the United States government, led by the covert wet works team FOXHOUND, under the command of Liquid Snake. Their target was the advanced weapon system Metal Gear REX, a gigantic robotic weapons platform able to independently launch a nuclear warhead at any target on the face of the planet. They had one demand: the body of the greatest soldier who ever lived, Big Boss. The Next-Generation Special Forces (better known as the GENOME Army), already the subject of advanced gene therapy, could use the genes of Big Boss to make them the ultimate soldiers. The government cannot let this happen. At the request of the Secretary of Defence, Colonel Roy Campbell, the former commander of FOXHOUND, summoned Solid Snake out of retirement and sent him to infiltrate Shadow Moses in one last solo covert operation. Dr. Naomi Hunter, Mei Ling, and Nastasha Romanenko are his support team.

Eventually, the Tanker is sunk and Solid Snake is presumed dead and the Hudson is polluted with mass amounts of Oil.

Another two years later and the Big Shell, a gigantic off shore clean up facility is taken over by a terrorist faction calling themselves the Sons Of Liberty. New FOXHOUND operative Raiden is sent in to neutralize the threat.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Sony PS2)
The story of Metal Gear Solid 3 takes place in the mid-60's - a year before the beginning of the Vietnam War. It was a time of tension as both of the world's superpowers collided. The United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics went head to head with the use of threats presented by the new technological weapon known as the Nuclear Bomb. Now, with the help of the US Government and a Government funded project with collaboration of the CIA, a new Special Forces Unit was created known as FOX. Its purpose was to go behind enemy lines and do the wet work without the other side knowing who it was. Major Zero leads the newly formed FOX unit into its first mission in the heart of Russia with their first candidate...a veteran of warfare - Jack, aka Naked Snake. (Prequel to the original series)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Sony Playstation 3)
Set in 2014, a total of five years after the "Big Shell Incident" (the events of the Plant chapter from Metal Gear Solid 2), Metal Gear Solid 4 portrays a world where the restriction of military intervention on foreign soil has been eased, fueling the need for private military companies (PMCs) to fight proxy wars for business purposes. Nanotechnology has become prominent, both to enhance the capabilities and enforce the loyalty of mercenaries. The nanomachine system that PMCs use is called "Sons of the Patriots" or "SOP". The five largest of these PMCs (Praying Mantis, Otselotovaya Khvatka, Werewolf, Pieuvre Armement and Raven Sword) are owned by a single mother company named Outer Heaven, which is operated by Liquid Ocelot. Amassing an army whose manpower rivals that of the United States, Liquid prepares to launch an armed insurrection by taking control of SOP. With the world once again in crisis, a rapidly aging and disillusioned Solid Snake is deployed into the Middle East by Roy Campbell to terminate Liquid.

So, that's it, If you have any questions regarding the story or anything, just ask. I believe a more Chronological order to play them in would be 3,1,2,4. Personally, I believe them to be the greatest games of all time. So, If you like to be tactical, and If you like espionage, this is the game for you!

The gameplay is the exact same story in the first two, taken on by different scenarios. Ex. The 4 main bosses in the first, Mantis,SniperWolf,Raven, Ocelot.

In the 2nd one it changes. You have Fatman, Fortune, Vamp, Solidus.

Keeping this in mind, the story is GENIOUS.

My adoration of the MGS franchise is well documented. I could go on at length about it, but the only testament that this series needs is that I cried at the ending of MGS4. That just doesn't happen.

I loved Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes... the first time I played it. After that...
Well, I'm with Noodles. Some of the worst dialogue ever. Give me Resi anyday.

We were talking about Liquid Snakes at work the other day... ewww...
Nah, I just tolerate Leon Kennedy's cheesy dialogue over Snake's 'cos Leon blows zombie heads off.
