Sunrise Inc., responsible for the original Cowboy Bebop anime has announced their plans to help produce the upcoming live action movie! So in addition to collaborating with Fox and 3 Arts Entertainment, the original series director Shinichiro Watanabe will be an associate producer! This is great news! I think I'm really getting excited for this movie now.Source: ANN |

Keanu Reeves Confirmed for Cowboy Bebop Source: The Hollywood Reporter January 16, 2009 20th Century Fox is bringing the Japanese anime TV series Cowboy Bebop to the big screen, with Keanu Reeves attached to star as a bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071, confirms The Hollywood Reporter. One of the big titles in anime, "Bebop" is set in a time where "astral gates" make interstellar travel possible. Humanity, decimated by a lunar explosion resulting from a gate accident, spread out across the solar system, as did crime, which gave rise to the use of bounty hunters. Reeves would play Spike Spiegel, a bounty hunter and former member of a crime syndicate. Spiegel, along with Jet Black, a fellow bounty hunter and former cop, are the two pilots of the spaceship Bebop. Peter Craig is writing the script. The show, which first aired on Tokyo TV and satcaster Wowow during the late 1990s, was strongly influenced by American music, even featuring action sequences -- both space battles and mano a mano -- timed to U.S. melodies. Sunrise president Kenji Uchida, the TV series' director of animation, Shinichiro Watanabe, and series writer Keiko Nobumoto will serve as associate producers. Series producer Masahiko Minami will serve as production consultant. |

Justin Chatwin for Goku is a better casting than Reeves for Spike. |

I agree, Mr. Reeves might not be capable of holding some of the Attributes that made Spike Spiegel----Spike Spiegel. |

I don't know I think Reeves is actually a very good choice for Spike. A lot of the time during Cowboy Bebop Spike shows very little emotion anyways. |

Yeah he doesn't, but he still has emotions such as sulking frowning, and the extraordinary grin he gives off. Ever since the matrix, it seems like he doesn't have emotions anymore. |

Seeing as how well The Day the Earth Stood Still did at the box office, it may very well blow DBE out of the water. He's proven to be a hollywood force to be reckoned with. His casting alone may turn this movie into a hit. |

I meant successful, not better. And they are two very different things. Cowboy may DO better just because of the lead, that's all I'm saying. I'm not saying that it will BE better. When comparing the popularity of Reeves vs Chatwin, there's a clear winner here. DBE may possibly launch Chatwin into the stratosphere, but I really doubt it. |
