Looks like we don't need to worry about a new origin story for the Bebop movie. ANN was able to get the scoop:

Quote:

3 Arts Entertainment producer Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, I am Legend, Kings) has told the iFMagazine.com website that the live-action Cowboy Bebop film in development will not be an origin story. “We start with [the main character, bounty hunter Spike Spiegel], when he is in his present life already.” He also emphasized that the producers began the project by meeting with Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of Sunrise's original Cowboy Bebop science-fiction anime series. "He will be the first guy to read a script when it's done. We'll discuss directors with him." While screenwriter Peter Craig has yet to finish the script, Stoff hopes to make the film next year and expects it will have a "totally multi-ethnic cast."

I concur but its a real shame that we will never find a LAM that is exactly the same as the anime/manga

If it was exactly the same, it would still be animated.

Actually Fox did go meet Akira for the DB movie oooo 6 years ago lol, but yeah this is great news. I think Cowboy Bebop will be much easier to make into a live action movie.

Definitely, because it's not really a fantasy world. Even though it's more than 50 years into the future, it's still a story that is compelling and not really that out there. You're just dealing with bounty hunters. I wonder though, since we won't have to be dealing with origins, they'll jump right into the Red Eye storyline. Do you guys think it will be the underlying plot through out the whole movie, or will it just take up some time in the beginning as it did in the original series?

I like that idea. Cowboy Bebop never really had a origin story. I think the only person who needs a origin in the movie is Faye and Ed, the way they were in the anime.
