can i state the irony in the level of racism present in saying that japanese people look like chinese people?
They look more like Chinese people than Indian people do.

Lol, John Wayne? How long ago was that compared to 2009?

My point still stands.
No it doesn't. That's like saying black people are still slaves and women can't vote.

While it's true that some typecasting still permeates Asian-American cinema, often narrowing role selection to that of martial artists/warriors, mentors, cops, and sexy "me love you long time" Asian girls, to say it exists on the same level it did in the early to mid 20th Century with John Wayne in The Conqueror and Paul Muni and Luise Rainer in The Good Earth is fastidious.

not the point. the point is that in denying an unimportant change in a crusader-like furore you're permeating a generalisation made by so many other dullards. you could have a reall strong argument and even then such things would trip you up in your quest.

Obviously its not as bad as back then. I was just using that as an example of the past. The movie 21 and the article was an example of the present and how racism still exists in Hollywood, even though its not as obvious as back in the day. As I said my point still stands.

I'm just stating the obvious. A lot of people think Chinese and Japanese people look the same, simply because they do look very similar as opposed to other ethnic groups in Asia. There's nothing wrong with saying that. I also don't see what the problem is if your casting for a character that should be Chinese, but you can't find anyone that auditioned good enough for the part, to cast a Japanese person who is good for the part. As opposed to casting someone who doesn't look remotely similar at all in any way. But I seriously don't want to get into a debate about ethnic groups, if you want to debate about it then PM it to me.

This thread is about racism pertaining to the movie. Not to get in a full on debate about if Chinese and Japanese look similar, and why its wrong to say this about this ethic group, and so on and so forth.

Lmao wow the Kingpin is your argument. Lets review what happened. Kingpin was not suppose to be Black, he was cast as a black man for what ever reason. Fan reaction was bad, movie turned out to be a piece of sh*t, and it wasn't very successful. It's attention to detail, when you can't ever pay enough attention to cast accordingly to how the character looks, then that doesn't fair well for the rest of the movie.
:lmao: You didn't get what I meant at all.

I don't think it's a make or break thing and I'm not sure if it's racist exactly, but I don't see what's so hard about casting people who look like the characters. In my opinion it seems like they deliberately chose not to try to cast based on looks. The question is... why?

So the main characters should be Japanese/Chinese, but no whites or anyone else, ey? Every other smaller character could be whatever?

Aang, Zuko, and the Royal family from the Fire Nation, should be Chinese/Japanese looking. Katara and Sokka should have darker skin (if anything the casting of the people from the fire nation, look a lot more like water tribe). Characters like Zhao, King Bumi, they can be a different nationality if you had to cast other nationalities. People like Roku, Jeong Jeong, and Sokkas sword master, should be Chinese because if anyone in the show screams Chinese its them (and Iroh of course).

Why would having a mainly Chinese cast be such a bad thing? I don't get why it would be wrong to base the casting choices of the different nations on the cultures they are based on.

we're not saying it would be wrong. we're saying it doesn't matter that it's not.

also it's a very satirical thing to think about. if you feature one race over another in any aspect people will moan in their little bubbles of racism.
