I'm not going to say this is confirmed or anything until I find a more reliable source, but on a fan site (of Emmy Rossum) there is speculation that the Budget was in fact $100 Million, but the reason why DB:E was only $45-$50 mil was they split it so they could use the second half to make a sequel.

The fan site is in Russian and the only reason why I noticed it was its title "DragonBall 2: Reborn", I used google translator and here it is + a link to the actual site.

Dragonball 2: Reborn

Good day.
There are rumors of some sites on the continuation of the movie. I have always said that FOX is planning a sequel. According to an interview for MTV with actress Jamie Chung, who plays Chi Chi in the movie, she said that FOX is planning to release 2 more parts of the movie. She said that the company has big plans for the film.

There is little information, while not officially confirmed, the film 2. Name is under construction until Dragonball 2: Reborn. The composition of the actors has just approved, but I think that if they continued to rent to play in the continuation of an Emmy.
Here is a rough plot of the movie 2:

When Piccolo is not such a terrible enemy, to replace him come villain Sayian, also known as Raditz, the main purpose of which is to destroy Goku. "

We also explained a little bit, and the enigma of 100 million budget. It turns out that its share in two, so that at 1 and 2 of the film accounts for approximately 50 million. I have a question, but could still cost more money to spend on the first film?) Just I have a great doubt that after, say, bad start of part 2 will enjoy great success. But then, as the saying goes, all will sponserov producers and because they spend money, they lose them ..)

If that's true, it clears up some confusion with what the budget was. But if there is a sequel, it will probably have about the same budget as the first movie.

wtf is the point of a sequel, they barely made they money back, if bombed in the US, and almost everyone that saw it put it on the worst movies of all time list.

If it's already been invested in, then surely they kind of have to make it. It'd be fraudulent not to, or is my knowledge of economic law sorely lacking?

It wouldn't be fraudulent, rather expected. I believe the chairmen have the final say on the productions continuation and can scrap the production if they think it won't make any money. Its that simple. Its just a product which we now know, and they now know, shouldn't be produced even if they did invest millions on it already... which probably just went towards the talent, screenwriters, and director etc. Its not going to happen.

Jeez, so let me get this straight...they had a 100 mill budget for making DBE AAANNNNDD dragonball Z? So that's another lousy 50 mill to make the Saiyan saga?

Why don't they (FOX) throw themselves in a pit and get us rid of their stupidity next time...(Gandalfs words)

If the rumors are rt, they are allocating fifty to the past film and fifty to the sequel, not 100 mill each, we would see that other fifty mill in action if that were true. Its 100 mill all together.

yea i probably would do the same or just rent it (dont think id buy) when it comes out on dvd. it might actually just skip the whole cinema stage and just go strait to dvd and i believe theres a chance of that hapening judging from what i saw in DBE. also if it does get confirmed and made with raditz as the villain how are they going to drag it out to like and hour and a half? because raditz was only in like 2 episodes which really isnt much.

I believe the studios are entitled to scrap the project and get their money back if they see it in their best interest. So, lets hope.
