What could we do to make this forum better?

I'm not talking about just the admins. I'm talking about all the members, veteran and new. Most have been a part of this forum for a long time. I hear people occasionally talk about this place being in a slump. And it is!

So what are we going to do about it?

Are there any suggestions from anyone on how to improve things around here? Things that maybe you as a member would actually be willing to act upon, and not just talk about.

Creating new threads and posting in various parts of the forum is all well and good to make it look like there is more activity, but it doesn't actually bring new activity.

For me, I actively try to find news to keep the homepage updated. I always put links to the forum at the bottom of the posts. That's become my main focus on trying to draw attention in. Also creating those Hitler DBE videos on youtube, with links in the subtitles to this website. With hundreds of thousands of views I'm sure it's brought some people in. But it doesn't seem to be enough.

I think if we really want this forum to grow we're all going to have to get out there and get our hands a little dirty. And by get out there, really you don't have to leave your seat. Just find places on the internet that you frequent. Just help promote the forum places.

Let's get this place hoppin!

So heres my plan of action :studious: , (no one has to agree)

1. Better Website, so ppl will see we gots standards and are not just a bunch of animefreaks. We gotta look professional and take no bs. No offense to wordpress.

2. The forum, well i think myspace, facebook and twitter have beaten us there.

All the other anime related forum survive on multimedia (episoeds, movies, music, manga) which ppl want and which we dont have. Anime mangas, anime movies and episodes might be a

possibility for thie forum even if its a stream based thing but stuf like music and software is too far.

3. More Reviews, actually more complex reviews. Thrash did a video review once (afroSamurai) which was not bad at all. But it would be nice if we had shots of that anime playing duirng his

voice over. It'll look real nice and clean. ( I could help in that department if needed).

Volunteers might be a little hard to find but i think asking a member to help out or contribute will be a better approach.

Speaking of which, i am open till August for any help the forum might need.

Stop talking about reaching out to people and 'advertising'. No point bringing people in if you can't keep 'em.
Discussion. That's what forums are about, yeah? We used to have great discussion threads. And if you aren't really interested in discussing stuff like manga or anime anymore, well, maybe you should re-consider why you come here.

well theres billions of other anime forums so how do we stand out?

If all we do is discuss, discuss and discuss then why come here.

I never really came here for discussion, i came here for the dbz lam fan posters. It was a challenge making them and entertaining watching the creativity of other members.

Great. But that's just you. So you come here, comment on a couple of posters, maybe put up one of yours and then you go again. Real active forum.

I think you and Mssj Vegeta both make valid points. The quality of members/posters must be good to attract other members and active posters. But on the same side of the coin, we do need to stand out from other anime forums, which is why we can't go strictly anime and manga. It can be a side thing here, but what sets us apart is the LAA angle. If we're going to grow we're going to need things that bring people to the site, things they want to know more about and really itnerest them, which in turn will lead to discussion on the forums.

Yes but it seems to me, from what I've seen, that the LAA angle isn't very popular. You get the odd kid who's really psyched for a Naruto movie.

you dont want to attract more LAA people cos all they do is go in the anime section, and all those other gay sections near the bottom. what you really need is about 5 or 6 articulate, intelligent and active members to join or re-join and the forum could actually be quite good again.

That would be awesome. I have the means to use clips in my reviews; the problem is that doing so would drastically diminish the video quality. If you have a way around this it'd be great if you could help out.

well i dont know what kind of software and hardware you use for ur vids (webcam/camcorder/iphone)

but as far as audio goes, if i get that part in decent quality i can add the clips using sony vegas and output in HD and ready for youtube which allows various resolutions including HD.

If you have an old audio/video review of any sort you can send it to me and i will do a test just to see how it would look.

I use a high-quality video camera to film. The results look and sound superb, but the resultant files are gargatuan (100 MB for a 3 minute clip) and incompatible with Windows Movie Maker. I can convert the files to .wmv format to remedy both problems, but this results in a sharp downturn in video quality.

However, I daresay I could record the audio with the camera and send that to you. If you could then layer over the voicework with high-quality clips, that would make for much better videos.

sure, send me a short one for testing.

btw i saw the new video review of Casshern, pretty good.

OR

if you do a close up, passport crop behind a white bg, adding that to the anime clips will also look good. It would look like how they do those interviews of movies on DVD (special features).

or i could just download ur video review from youtube and test it with that,
