Dear creature (since I'm not sure if you're a human or a monster or an animal or something pretending to be another),

I throw my arms as a symbol of "thankfulness" for visiting this oasis. But just so I know who's specifically knocking at our oasis's front door, do you mind if you register or log in?

You're currently wandering outside our oasis as a ghost. This means your face is unrecognizable and you are limited to certain areas of our oasis and there are some abilities you don't possess. If you become one of us, you'll be able to access monster-only sections, and use many monster-only features such as having a slimy profile, sending monsterosas letters, and a lot more. Monsterification is simple, fast, and completely free.

Do you have what it takes to become a monster?

If you're already a monster here then please slobiverate your details below in order to access all the features you deserve: (Plus, you'll get rid of this annoying reminder.)

Hey guys. So there I was, looking around the forum and getting that warm feeling of belonging even if it's been a while. ;) Then I click the Calendar link to see the birthdays, and whoa: a ton of mini cake images... Wooo do we have a lot of members! =) (A pity not all of them are active cough cough I'm sorry for being inactive lately . T_T )

A little fun analysis: It takes only about 23 people to have a 50% chance of having a pair have the same birthday. This is known as the
birthday paradox, which I encountered last semester in a Statistics class. Here's a link to the page that explains it in a simpler manner than Wikipedia does, but don't bother going through the whole thing if it causes eye strain, headaches, concussions and heart failure because this is pretty much stuff that made my self-esteem dry up every exam. ;)

It was fun to confirm this. See how many 2's there are next to the cake icons! In August alone there are 3 dates with two birthdays. On the 18th there are 3 people, and 4 people on the 19th. WOOT.

Uhm...it was just...uhm, fascinating. xD

The Black Cat Phenomenon

I had this book last time that contains tips, questions and trivias math-wise. There was a question which is something like what is the probability of two students having a similar birthday in a 50-students class. I don't remember the exact answer but it did surprise me. It wasn't hard to believe it because looking back in highschool, we're only 20+ and I had two classmates sharing the same birthday.

I wonder where's that book now. I hope it's just right here somewhere.

Thanks for the link. Birthday paradox is indeed fascinating.
