I couldnt find anything reasonably priced. I plan on going with an electric water pump and then relocating my alternator to where the smog pump used to be using a March Serp Pulley setup... in the end itll cost about 7-800... |

I'm also thinking of an electric water pump.. either Meziere or CSR ...but i also want to get rid of the pwer steering pump so the only thing i have left is the alternator.. The problem is, I dont know if i want to put in a manual rack or not.... I also know that there are electric hydraulic power steering pumps that might be cheaper than fully electric steering.. |

Hey Manny, I was thinking about this the other day and while looking at electric water pumps, I thought well what if we hooked up a motor to the power steering box like http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...5B&autoview=sku It might not be the cleanest looking install but it sure would free up horsepower... Just food for thought, why hasnt anyone else made a kit like this? What wouldnt work? Its not like I am trying to run an alternator with an electric pump lolP.s I am still going to stick with the March Pulley Serp Setup as planned but this thought popped into my head... |

Hey whatsup man, Actually my friend has that setup and that little motor broke on him twice, it's pretty much a nightmare for him...He was actually telling me the other day that he wants a meziere pump.. btw, i never had any luck with proform i really dont trust that company.. This mod might be good for strip use where the car is used a few minutes at a time... Now electric powered alternator .. you might be on to something there...lol  |

Cause i can? hahhaah.. no seriously....I really like the idea of just running an alternator on the front of my motor..this also means no more annoying power steering leaks...and besides the only time a manual rack is a pain is when you park the car..I cant remember the last time i parrallell parked my bitch..

As soon as you change it you going to be stuck parralle parking it. But seriously what does it really buy you. I do not see the advantage. How much horse are you going to get out of her because of this change. Get a new pump and no more leaks. Or is this one of those I could knock 2.7lbs off the front of my car mods. |

Yeah Spadinsky hit the nail on the head!!! That's why i shave my head.. less weight = faster car!!! My pump doesn't leak...actually the fittings in the back do need tightening once a year cause my cam vibrates everything loose.. Taking the power steering off the front of the motor also gives me the opportunity to run an electric water pump.. and then i can get rid of all that bulky crappy serpentine brackets and just have the alternator on with a little rod end support.. The more shit i take out of the engine bay the easier it is for me to work in there... that's why i tore all my AC and heater crap out.. I can see Dennis agreeing with me on that one... As far as horsepower is concerned... taking the pwr steering and water pump off the crank belt (combined with the weight savings), should give me the equivalent of about 15-25 horses ..not much, but I'm a horsepwr junkie..every little bit helps with my addiction...

Glen, I think Manny was being serious in his expliantion... it will gain horsepower. I would like to say just running an alternator with an electric power steering pump with a manual rack you can see over a 25hp difference. Different sources say different things in terms of percentage gains, but think about what a water pump is... it is basically forcing the engine to pump water... which is using power cause the water has reisitance... the same concept with the power steering pump. |

Spade.. i heard of a few people running electric water pumps on street cars (usually a CSR or a Meziere) with no problems..they say their pumps have a 3000 hour life expectancy....but the pumps go for like 500 bucks...
