Hey folks, I'm looking into getting a stall converter for my car. I was looking at a Precision Industires Vigilante stall, I just don't know what stall speed I should get. I'm gonna give the company a call tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anybody else here is running a stall. Here's my setup: SLP Runners SLP Cold Air Kit SLP PROM SLP Catback Holley 52mm TB Accel Super Ram Intake Manifold base. Stock engine internals otherwise. I'm also getting SLP Tri-Y headers put in as soon as I get them back from Jet Hot. I basiclaly put together the original SLP Performance Package from 1991 for my car. All my other mods are chassis mods like SFCs, etc. |

you clearly have a tpi motor, which one? also what rear and gears do u have, those must be taken into consideration when choosing a converter, also cam, any forced induction or nitrous in the future? what are youre ultimate plans for the car. |

1 more thing, will this be mailnly a street crusier or a track star? do you care about a couple tenths of a second in the 1/4, or do you want a fun ballsy street fighter? |

It's an L98 350. I have 3.23 gears out back. As for use, I don't really care about the track. I just want to be able to embarrass a few of the newer cars on the street during stoplight engagements. Maybe heads and cam in the future, but nothing too radical. I can't work on my car in my garage anymore because my neighbors don't know how to mind their own f***ing business. |

look into pro torque, there based out of bohemia, they make great quality converters, custom ordered. There local, so if you ever have a problem, its easily treatable. Since youre staying N/A and thinking of a more agressive cam and better flowing heads and you opened up youre intake and exhaust with good quality parts id say 24-2600 should take that setup outta the hole in a millasecond. and be fun as hell. And if you were to go power adder or n20 id say tighten that up to 2200. IMHO, i think that would be youre best stall for that car on the streets. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into them. I think I'm going to go for a 2400RPM stall. I think the stock one stalls at around 1500rpm, which is why I hate my automatic so much. I played around with the idea of swapping to a T56, but if the stall will shift just as fast or faster, than why not? Brooklyn traffic sucks a big one. So for now, I'm considering a Trans Go shift kit, Corvette Servo and the stall. Of course I'll have a tranny oil cooler. This ought to make it a little more responsive right? |

^ that will all make a huge difference. but i will refer you to freddy brown transmissions for youre kit. because they just dont throw in a kit, clutches and a servo. They rebuild the whole thing. they change the planetarys and all the weak links in the tranny. stuff like pins, the whole valve body, and lots of other crap i cant think of right now. Im not that much of a tranny guy. But i know a stock 700 with a kit and stall will only last so long. like i said, the weak links all need to be replaced with better hardware. thats the diff between them and every other tranny shop. the one they built for me should be good till 700hp. |

Also keep in mind.. advertised stall is not always the same as real world stall... you can have a advertised stall of lets say 2000 but when u put it in ur car and floor the bitch you actually might see it stall at like 2200... it all depends on ur setup...2400 seems ok but a bit high for my personal liking if i were to leave that car the way it is...but like 89bandit said it'll be good if you go with some more mods in the future.. |
