5.7 W 700r4 Auto; RPM @ Speeds

what can i modify next ?
I hacve been driving my Z28 to work once or twice a month and will do speeds of 80 - 85 avarage on the highway.

My problem is that I am running @ 3200 - 3600 RPM

when she does drop to 2200 2400 its olnly for a short period and once it depress the accelerator she kicks back to avg 3400 RPM

seems to be like its not achieving Lock up - :idk:

I may drop $ 1500 on a new TCI streetfighter soon but I don't want to just waste my money

What RPM's do you guys average

Has anyone checked you tv cable. The mechanic said I need a new tranny because she did not go into od and shifted like shit.
Well Dennis and Manny took her for a spin and adjusted the cable. High rpm and crappy shifting was gone.

Result tranny is fine

i have a T.P.I. 305 with a 700R4 in my 86 and when i hit overdirve and cruse arount 60-65mph i average adout 2000-2100 but any faster it climbs anywere between 25-2800 and mine trikles to its like the car wants to take off but its not getting enough exceleration try it in drive and see if it does it then

I had a tranny shop do a service, new filter , adjustments , 1 - 2 shift was reall late like over 3200

they fixed that and it feels stronger but still high rpms @ high speeds

I have 3.23 gears in my car, same engine and tranny as yours, and at 60-65, I'll run at 2k to 2100 rpms.
Currently looking for a 91-92 Z28, TTA or GN

Ed..ever get this looked into?..I was reading up on some tranny stuff and remembered you had a prob...I would check out the whole lockup circuit ( ie: lockup solenoid, relay etc..) or you can have someone wire in a manual switch inside ur car and u can manually lock it up urself (that's how my clown car is done)...

I actually just resolved the issue or I should say its being resolved now.
I brought it in for the tranny to Citywide trans in Yonkers getting a full rebuild and discovered that 2nd and 4th gear was shot, also he assumes that the engine has had cam work (i have no idea) and we agreed to put in a 2000 sp converter - in addition rear gears will be upgraded to 3.42

hoped to have it back this weekend for the headers but its not gonna happen.

kool...So he told you that you might have a cam eh? I wanna see and hear your motor next time...sometimes it's very hard to tell if you have a cam..but tell tale signs are if the timing cover looks like its been taken off before, and depending how big the cam is..you can hear the chop...

or maybe your idle is rough and you need a tune up or something...

Just goit the Z back tonight and I am very happy
its shifts hard from 1st to 2nd :brnout:
4th gear lock up is sweet staying around 2000 @ 80 mph
no constant downshifting
he installed an 1800 stall and HD 4 3 2 Z kit :idk:
Now it goes in tomorrow for the Header to tail Edelbrock exhaust
and SFC's :rock: :rock: :rock:

between youre tranny and header back exhaust, You will have a pretty mean Z, Now go stomp on some fox body's.

Dont forget to get a good high flow cat, dont even think about reusing the stocker.

Well if youre going to hollow them out, thats fine, I dont have a cat either, just a 3" peice of pipe. But if you actually put youre stock 18yr old cat on there, it kind of defeats the purpose of a "high flow system"

The installer is going to hollow them out but he required me to sign off on the paperwork so I can't blame his shop if I have an emmsions problem later on

mine shifts hard from 1-2 also and i told my mechanic to look at it and he said you have a shift kit stupid haha shows what i know about my own car eehh you live and you earn and i agree screw emissions get rid of the cats it sounds so much better that way and it runs better too iv herd that gas mileage is better theres a plus!! better gas mileage means more tire spin :brnout:

SFC's are in and they look great
the mechanic Ron painted up my oiil & tranny pans and sprayed my frame with some black paint that made it look like new
they where starting on the headers today
he's gonna fab up a straight piupe for the cats
the original ones have been welded on now twice already
the good news is they were already hollowed out so i passed the last emisions like that. He worked late today on it and promised it by tuesday it would be ready
Maybe we can make the exhaust clip on tuesday night if all goes well
I'm hoping for that VW bus kind of growl that screams "world peace"
