...to drive long distances?

I'm talking LONG, like state to state, and I don't mean just to NJ. I mean distances like NY to FL or further than that. Any why do you trust it/don't trust it?

The reason I ask is that I am planning on entering the military this year, and I have two cars, and need to take one that will travel long distances without getting me into trouble (ie breaking down and making me miss my deployment).

Obviously in terms of reliability, I'd take the Civic as it is the newer car, but I sure would hate to part with my GTA too... :idk:

I wish I could, I was using NY to FL as more of an example. If I get into the program I want, I may be ending up in Alabana and then hopefully Oklahoma or Arizona.

I would not trust mine on long distances.. After the BBK disaster she has never ran right.

As far as the GTA I could rent you a garage to store her.

BTW if you get deployed I thought they would transport one vehicle for you.

Yes, they would ship the car for you, but I'm thinking about the 13 weeks of Officer Training School that I would need to go through. During that first 13 weeks, I'll be working towards my officer's commission, so I won't technically be part of the military yet, so I won't have my car shipped there. I won't be driving anywhere during that time period (I'll be getting yelled at a lot and doing PT all the time most likely) and then from there who knows? If I get the job I want, then I could be stationed anywhere from Arizona to Florida.

Also, if I live in the officer dorms, the car would be parked outside all the time, no garages. It's really just the first year I'm worried about. No, I won't have any family to store the car here for a year. I was just thinking about driving the car there already and just praying it makes it.

And no, I thought about it... I won't sell the GTA. IF (and that's a big IF) I end up making it all the way and getting a pilot slot and flying fighters, then I'll need a cool car to match. I figure if I get orders early enough, I'll just leave for the new base a week in advance and have a lot of cash on reserve. :idk:

Thanks Dave, I still have a long way to go though, so I'm not taking anything for granted as far as getting the job I want. It's gotten to the point where even if i don't make pilot, I'd still like to make a career out of the military. Politicss and office work don't really suit me much.

I might just bite the bullet and pay to have the car shipped to my future base if I really need to. Just little details I'll need to start working out now long before I find out when i leave.

I wonder how much worse your gas mileage is going to get with the turbo on there? ;)

Ashley brought up a good point. Overheating is a problem I'll definitelty need to worry about moving down south. It's not so bad here, but during summer, I get nervous watching my temp gauge climb. Down south, it easily breakd 100s during the day. I'm going to put off power mods to my car and beef up my cooling system.

Honestly, When I get my car running, I plan on doing a few simple checks, for example check overheating check transtemp and confirm proper operation of all of them, I dont see anyreason any car cant make a long distance. I wouldnt trust taking my car over any bridges cause people just cant freakin drive or stay in their lanes. But thats me not trusting people, i trust my car more then people.
