it could also be ur injectors ....since they are old and stuff...but i believe the guys covered that in previous posts...throw in some techron fuel injector cleaner and drive that bad boy on the highway ...let her open up a bit...might help until you replace your injectors..

good idea I am on vaca next week got time to mess around

Sam what is all the hostility about...

The Idel Contril sensor controls your idle. When you stop at alight and your idle bounces all over the place then odds are the sensor is bad.

No hostility man. I was just saying, dont assume things like that. I see a lot of people do that, only to find out it didnt solve the problem

The Idle Air Control Valve is not a sensor. It's a valve. (lol) If the idle is bouncing around that doesnt necessarily mean the IACV is bad. It can be a vaccuum leak, misfire, fuel issue, etc etc...

alright everyone, Sorry I havent gotten to respond faster... To ALL that ask about replacing your distributor on your fuel injected car... My suggestion is to not to do it. The "brain" as your mechanic said is the ignition module. They dont cost $75, they range from $20 for a stock one to $60 for a high performance one.
Also everyone looking for a distributor a TPI one is different then a TBI and both are very different then a Carbed app. So you cant just go on summit and look at the cool one. Most of the distributors you see for $150 are probably just as good as stock... but do they come with the new coil? DOes your car have the coil in cap hei or the external HEI...
Also before we go further with why your car dies... I want to know a few other things.
When it dies does it start up right away?
What have you or your mechanic replaced so far to get it to where it is today?
Are there any check engine lights on or when it dies does the check engine light go off? This will help with diagnosing the problem
ALthough a IAC valve can be the culprit, why change it if you are unsure?? If we are guessing here on idle problems I will also throw out the Throttle position sensor, vacuum leaks, mass air flow sensor (unless it is speed density), air temp sensors, timing, cold start injector, leaky injectors... the computer itself... it could be 100 things so try not to replace all of them. :)Starting with what code you have can help you out big time.

Yeah Mr. Dennis preaches the truth.... :D

BTW...Mike...You mentioned you did a full tune up and no codes are showing up...Was your fuel filter changed in that tune up? That is something that is sometimes over looked..hell no one even mentioned that previously..lol

there was no code and yes it start right back up like nothing happened it used to hesitate when it accelerates and stall at every light and when lput in reverse otherwise it ran fine, and it park it ran perfect just at lights the idle would drop down and stall. Then I cleaned maf and the car no longer hesitates adn it doesnt stall that often its not an all the time thing, I think I will just replace the ignition module, first then go from there, My mechanic didnt replace anything he just looked at it at the time I couldnt leave the car with him. Thanks for the input. oh my mechanin said it wasnt the tps switch and i checked for vacuum leaks

^ ahh.. I remember there was another thread that we were trying to diagnose this issue...It's a process of elimination..attack the easy to fix possible culprits first, and work your way from there, like Dennis said there are alot of things it can be..... If you are gonna bring it to a mechanic then he should be able to find whats wrong..

for the time being..it wont hurt to throw in a bottle of techron and clean out ur IAC a bit..make sure when you buy the techron, that it's the fuel injector cleaner one..not the fuel system cleaner..I find that one works better..

Added the techron with a full tank of 93 octane blew her out on the wantagh and the s state, had her up to 100 mph a few times , no stalling at all, im hoping this works I think it might be in my head but I swear it felt faster

That techron stuff is good shit...

another thing to consider is.. There was a period where my daily driver kept on stalling and running like shit...and it drove me crazy cause i couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong... so one day i changed gas stations to see if it was the gas...and low and behold the car ran fine after that.. :bang: :bang:

I usually dont go to the same place, I thought maybe bad gas but I ran it all out this time around for the techron so far its even better than before, im keeping my fingers crossed

I wouldnt put anything less than 93 octane to as TPI car.. The computer knows when 87 or 89 is in there. And retards the timeing to prevent detenation. Def slows youre bitch down. Only 93+............
