so im the market for a new tranny to slap behind my turbo motor...the tranny i have now stands no chance at all, so i was on CKPerformance website and i think im all decided on the stage one 4l80 with the upgraded custom sprag and drum deal, making it a 1200 horse tranny for about 2500 to 2600 bux, compared to freddy brown...thats a deal, so i was wondering if anyone wanted a tranny for their car so maybe we can do a group deal kinda thing...and if anyone wanted to go down there and check out the shop and talk to him and see what we can do....i rather personally talk to him and make the tranny the way i want then jus stage one or two...you know... and does anyone have any idea if the 700 converters are the same as the 4l80 or no....cuz i have a nasty ballon plated converter i rather use if i could....anyone wanna do a trip to his shop an check it out....let me know... |

quick question, since you know I just bought a tranny but im curious. will you have to cut the trans tunnel in the car to make it fit? from what ive heard the 4l80 is a bigger unit in general. I know your doing alot of fabbing up anyway. |

i donno, its pretty much a th400 with overdrive on it, i kno its longer i donno if i have to mod the tunel any, there is only one guy that i kno did the swap on tgo and i hit him up, hasnt gotten back to me yet, if i have to get a new crossmember new torque arm and new converter i might have to just stick with the 700....and jus keep the car under 750 for now...would be sweet to have that 80 tho |

nah...not the 4l80 e...got a 700r4...should hold about 750 800 horse....and if and when it breaks...ill upgrade to the 4l80e jus dont got the time to fab the necessary shit for that right now... |

its the stage 3 with all billet internals and whatnot... i opted for the auto/manual valve body, when the car is in overdrive it will shift as a regular tranny would, low shift points and totally streetable....and as soon as you shift it into any of the 3 lower gears, it switches to a full manual valve body and you can shift it when ever you want...im thinkin 7000rpm pill should be sweet. |

i was thinking about a th 400, when my 700 blows, only reason is that there bullet proof and im going to need it when i have a texaz speed ls motor in the car down the road. question is can a th 400 take me to 150+ speeds on high way runs , |

th 400 is a three speed tranny, and wont take you to 150, even with low gears in the rear end...3 speeds are jus not meant for that plus, the driveshaft and converter is differ then a 700r4....so your next option is the 4l80e which is a tranny from the newer gm trucks with 2 wheel drive like silverados, and it is pretty much a th400 with a overdrive, but its a big tranny, and you have to make it fit in the car, beat the tunnel up and fab up a new crossmember, this was my first choice, but jus dont have the time to do that so i opted for the 700...should live for a while. and its hard to learn by watchin, grab some car magazines and get a few subscriptions, i liked car craft as a youngin....read up and then grab some wrenches and do it..... |

thanks charged i knew those 3 gears werent gonna take me up there asking around and people said they would. then i started lookin at peoples quarter mile times. and figure if they can clock that high on a quarter mile why not take hway runs with it. i heard ckp. is good , by that time you beat the shit out of that tranny and fgure out while ill do by your testament and others. |
