Well, before everyone gets let me just say its actually a good thing as the dam car was consuming most of my paycheck. So, driving around today im going along and i hear a pop, clink and then a whineing noise, sorta like a bad fanbelt. I pull into the parking lot of the fire house and turn the car off and low and behold smoke comes out of my hood. I give the car a few mins to cool down and try to start it, the starter doesnt crank it, makes an evil grinding noise. Well, i was close enough that me and a few friends push the thing home. So mike takes a look at it. turns out my torque converter aint where its supposed to be. I think my engine destroyed a tranny mount (or something) and killed the transmission. Ill assess more of the damage later tomorrow. Until then, the third gen is off the road until further notice. Ill still be at hooters and such living it up in my fourth gen.

I have to come over to see this to believe it... I will get that thing running and driving again, youll see. If it is a tq converter problem merrick, you need to take it back to the transmission shop that installed your tranny!!!!!! |

Never did a neutral drop, never did a burn out. I did run the engine hard though but thats no reason a torque converter should take a shit. |

You can see my full tq converter... its not a lil plastic cover, I can see my flywheel also... I agree with alex, I dont think that it is the tq converter unless they really didnt tighten the 3-4 bolts going to the flywheel and the imput shaft on the tranny broke all at the same time the tq converter is going to just sit there. The real question is, where the hell did all that fluid come from ??? |

see im used to chrysler, we have a full bellhousing around our TQs , so i thought that something really got Fcuked up , the cooler lines looked like thy were soaked. it also looked like they hooked up the cooler to his radator , and not his external , but only one line was going to each. Weird. |

Dennis, you can come look at it tmw. If the tranny took the eninge with it im parting out the car and junking it. If not, im doing a tranny myself, be scared! By the time i do a tranny and engine im looking at well over 3k (considering i do the labor myself). Rather just get a 350 with posi disk, do some bolt ons and call it a day. |

>Common problem: fried TC bearing which the trannie pump sucks in the pieces and fries the rest of the trannie! That's what happened to me. When installing a new TC, always fill it first before installing! Some shops install them empty and rely on the start-up to have the trannie pump draw fluid in. In that short dry period bad things can happen! Don't do it! |

sounds like probably your lines were loose and u leaked the tranny fluid.....also..the way to hookup a tranny cooler is running it through the external cooler and the radiator then back to tranny... |

Well, I got under the car today and looked at what actually happened... Here is my story believe it if you like, Merrick will post pictures shortly. The piece that flew off of Merrick's car was the weight on the flexplate. The engine was revving and it flew off at such a high speed that it cut/ kinked both tranny lines, broke the end of the starter into pieces and put a huge dent in his exhaust. No damage looks to be done to the engine or transmission except for the starter and flexplate. |
