Does anybody know what the optimal temp is for tranny fluid? What's considered too hot and what's considered too cold? I'm trying to decide whether to run both the radiator tranny cooler and an external or just the external. I'll also be installing a tranny temp gauge.
Currently looking for a 91-92 Z28, TTA or GN

I was told around 20 degrees of ur engine temps. But it doesnt hurt to run an extra cooler. Or if you want to , get a deep tranny oil pan with fins. Cooled my trucks tranny pan by 18 degrees, holds 5 more quarts

See that's the thing, I want to run VERY reduced tranny temps. I'm gonna have a stall converter put in and it's definitely gonna be giving off more heat.

Rule of thumb is 10 degrees cooler than engine temp. When u run an external cooler the best way to run it is through the radiator also..ofcoarse if you get the deeper and finned tranny pan and u run cooler its better..I'm always running about ten degrees cooler in the city...and I have a 2800 stall..highway I lock up the converter and I run about twenty degrees cooler..I have an external cooler and run it through the radiator..no deep finned pan either...
