Who has a stock 700R4? How does it feel when it shifts for you? Are you able to feel the shifts? or are they so soft that you don't feel them? For the longest time, my tranny was shifting soft so I replaced the TV cable, fixed a small tranny fluid leak and flushed out the old fluid and put in fresh DEXRON VI this past weekend. Readjusted the cable, went out for a drive, trans has a very positive shift from 1-2, but 2-3 doesn't feel strong. Most times, you can't feel it. If I'm light enough on the gas, the 1-2 shift is soft, but anything more than like 5-10% throttle and the 1-2 shift kind of kicks you in the butt a little. The trans will break traction from a 25-30mph roll if I suddenly floor it. Just trying to get a guage of what a stock good conditioning tranny is supposed to feel like. Thoughts? |

i have a stock 700r4 but its odd because sometimes the shifts can be a bit rough and then sometimes the only reason you can tell it shifted is because the rpms dropped, wish i could give you a better answer but thats all ive got 4 u (my tv cable needs 2 be adjusted or replaced im sure though) |

Al, with my stock 700R4 I feel every shift even when driving slowly, it is not a hard shift but you can feel when its doing it. |

The 1-2 kick is most pronounced when cold, but even when it warms up, it can still be felt. I just got through ordering stiffer servos from PATC transmissions. I want better shifting than stock. |

Stock 700r4 here,,,i need to change the fluid b/c its a little old but shifts are pretty soft, even when cold or getting on it. Definately doestn't feel like any tranny w/a shift kit installed in it. |

Yes, I plan on doing it myself. Shouldn't be too hard. Just jack up the car, pry the tranny over to the driver's side to get more room and take out the servo assembly. The 2nd gear and overdrive gear pistons are on the same assembly anyway. I may also tackle a shift kit install myself if I can get the throttle valve assembly out in one piece. Don't really have anything to lose if I mess it up. I was planning on a tranny rebuild anyway. If things come out ok, I may save myself some money and hold off on the rebuild. I just changed the fluid and she's shifting a whole lot better now. |
