ok so i just put 3.42 gears and a brand new auburn posi in my car but when im driving it when i let off of the gas it makes a almost clunking noise but only when im coasting and let off of the gas pedal but if i put the car in neutral and rev it up while im coasting it goes away.so it wouldnt be the rear end rite?

Who installed the gears? If the preload is loose you might get noise! You have to make sure where the noise is coming from...

well i was thinking maybe the driveshaft or the trans cause i just went out and drove it put it in neutral and shut the car off while rolling and it still made the noise and it matches my speed like the faster i go the faster it goes

They Fcuked up puttin the gears in, they aren't shimmed correct and the gears aren't locking in the correct way, thus makin the noise.

Whenever the rear wheels turn....whether powered or not...you're gonna be spinning your rear gears! It's prob. the gear install...too loose or the cross pin is loose...something there.

well i just checked it if anything the rear is to tight?like its hard to spin it by hand when the cars on a lift in neutral it spins forward kind of hard but to spin it backwards its realy hard.so would that mean the gears are to tight to one another as in the posi needs to be shimmed away from the pinon?

Do you feel a click when you turn the wheels? Gears have to be installed perfectly....with just the right amount of preload....guys use a dial to see what kind of play there is...someone that does this for a living should do this. This is one job where a professional is a must.

I can't tell you what to do.....you could drive it until it breaks or have your friend fix the noise problem....or you can take it to another shop to fix it.

> I would take it to your friend who installed it and ask him to solve the noise problem....if he's good, he will do it since he installed it.

well its still parked at his shop cause i already paid him to do it.but he just keeps pushing it to the side and i realy dont want to drive it until its fixed.the guy that installed my trans and stuff for me last spring said hed do it for 150 bucks but i just dont have it hence why im trying to sell some stuff at the moment.its just been one big headache after another with the rearend.i bought a used eaton and the guy i got it off of ripped it apart and took the shims from the spider gears and part of the clutch pack and i bought it online so i got screwed on that.so i bought one of a friends father that one was like taller?and the cross pin was different.so i spent 400 bucks on a brand new auburn cause my buddy said it was the posi making the noise put it in and still does it.then he tells me its my brand new tranny.which i dont think it is cause it sounds like its coming from the back of the car.i know when we put the posi in it was hard to spin.like quite hard to spin he said he may have to shim it away from the pinon?but idk thats why i paid someone to do it cause i know nothing about that stuff.

Bring it to the Tranny shop and let him look at it.

Then at least you know what you are looking at.
