Hatches are fiberglass and probably a composite back window, where as that metal hatch and surround, along w/that heavy curved glass probably weights it down significantly.  Just get the hatch, fiberglass hood and doors stan and call it a day.

I'm wondering if the notch or the regular hatch with Lexan glass is better. I would think the notch would have some drag because of the negative area in the window area. The hatch is a smoother transition for the airstream....just an idea. I must do an air tunnel test! LOL

What.... the glass hatch weighs about 75lbs? That's quite a reduction! I think you can't put a Lexan windshield, but a back hatch would be ok, right? It's not structual or necessary to really see out of.

My bro in law and I did this to his 88 GT a couple summers ago. Between that, the fiberglass hood and entire fiberglass hatch, No AC, no power steering, and removed both front and back honeycomb bumper supports. The dahm car weighs nothing. It fast as Fcuk. And its really just a bolt on car with open headers and a huge cam.

With the fiberglass deck...I'd say at least 100lbs. off the rear! I want to email this guy and ask him what the ride is like....if he still has his ride....
