There seems to be many mixed feelings on this issue.

With trannys as old as ours is it a good idea to flush our trannys and add new fluid.

I have heard from many that this is a bad thing to do with old transmissions.

It is a very bad idea. The reason why is with all the years put on the transmissions there are small particles of metal sitting in the pan and other places. With a flush (people would think this would clear it) you can break lose the peaces and the have the possibility to clog or jam up sensitive areas causing more harm. The only way to really do it right is pull the pan and clean it completely out of the car. You never know what is hiding in the fluid so better safe then sorry...

^ Thats what i've always heard and have to do mine soon. I'm debating either way. My fluid may be original for all i know and i'm afraid of backflushing something.

Ive done 100's of evacs of trannys. Vacuuming out all fluid, dropping the pan, cleaning the pan, changing the filter and filling with the correct fluid. No problems as of yet.
There are people who say it will cause problems, but i have a feeling the tranny is already going if doing maintenance to it will cause a problem.

To do the filter you gotta pull off te pan, so that solves that problem.
