How to Change a Transmission Mount
Drew Mar 31 2006 - 5:03pm
This article will step you through the removal and installation of a transmission mount.

Using a Poly mount is recommended. However it can cause more vibrations to be transferred to the car. Additional complications can arise with a poly mount due to its size being slightly out of spec.

Further conflicts can occur with sub-frame connectors and the poly mount.

After doing one tranny mount, doing it in the future shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes.

Raise and support the car with jack stands.
Remove the 15mm nut from the tranny mount stud.
Use a 2x4 at least the width of the transmission pan on top of your jack and raise the transmission a few inches.
Remove the two 14mm bolts from the mount to the transmission.
Remove the mount, if it can’t be removed raise the transmission higher and try again.
Install the new mount using the original 14mm bolts to the transmission and either the supplied cross member to mount bolts or the original 15mm bolt.
Torque the bolts to spec.
Return the car to the ground and go for a drive.

Duke, it's 3 freakin bolts. Don't make me hurt you. Change that shit!!!

And if you keep breaking them, it's time to put a strap on the motor cuz I doubt you wanna go solid motor mounts?

Yeah simple enough procedure. I actually have to change mine. I have the replacement mount sitting in my backseat. Like the guys stated above. It really is a fast job. I think my first time changing the mount on my old TA took me about 30 min. I've just been lazy about doing it. Mine isnt too bad, but I need to change it. Maybe this weekend.

What exactly causes them to go bad other than time and them just wearing down? If you drive more aggressively what that cause them to "break" or wear faster?

Hard stumps on the gas pedal causing the engine to jump, thus jumping the tranny too. And then you have a broken mount.....

Duke make sure you compare the old and new. There are two version mounts for our car one is smaller than the other.

Very worn engine mounts can cause a tranny mount to break. The worn engine mounts allow the engine to over twist and then the tranny mount which isnt designed to twist, rotates and breaks. easy job to replace

Get a small strap or a chain from the drivers head to the frame, old school but it works.

when you jump on the throttle the rearend wants to rotate up,that pushes the torque arm up and because it's connected to the back of the tranny it rips the mount.
the set up that Dennis has on his car eliminates broken trans mounts by mounting the torque arm to the crossmember not the back of the tranmission
