I also think the added 20 lbs. on top of the car will affect weight distribution in turns and weight shifts ( braking and accel ).

Really though if you wanted weight savings when building a 3rd gen a hardtop is the way to go. With the added weight of additional under car bracing the hardtops were the way to build a lightweight camaro/bird. Find one w/no power options and your probably going to save 150lbs+

Wow...all you needed was the ejector seat!

Dave...I thought of doing this too...but it would cost!

I thought that the lexam tops worp or some shit like that that's why GM switched to glass

Alex can you paint those t-top if so do you need a flex additive, I think they would look awesome painted, maybe even something custom like ghost
They went from glass to lexan.... Don't think they worp
Actually I think they do. I have a set and one is slightly warped. If you look at the car with them on straight from the front or back, one is a bit warped. Cant remember which one. Aside from them looking like shit, that was my main reason for switching to the glass. I've seen several topics about the warping issues on TGO. I think the Lexan's also had issues with leaking and noise/squeaking from the factory. I also read that many people brought their cars back to dealerships and GM was replacing these tops with glass ones. Anyways I have a warped top. Im assuming its from the sun. My car was sitting for awhile before I got it and the tops have substantial sun damage.

That's why I was asking if they came clear coated for UV protection. UV will kill acrylic!

Considering the spider vein looking cracks, fading, and warping Id say that they were not protected from the sun very good if at all. I still keep them because Id like to change the lock cylinders with my glass ones so I can use the key. I just dont know how possible it is. Theres a question, can that be done? If I get no answer here, Ill start a thread.

thats a trick for any car. if you want it light, coupe or even more better, sedan (post cars). t-tops are like the convertibles, gotta beef up underneath. ever wonder why REAL, race cars, and hot street cars, are hardtop (yes i know there are wicked convertibles out there, just in general.)
that and the general racing population like some cushion if they throw it on the roof. lol

On these cars I am 99% sure that the hardtop and ttop cars recieved the same frame... the convertables got basically on "L" bracket more than us in terms of frame reinforcement. (that is the reason companys sell "hardtop/ttop SFCs" and also separate "convertable SFCs." The only reason the ttop cars would weigh more is because the sheet of glass weights more than a thin peice of sheetmetal. Putting in Lexan certainly takes off the weight.
