I have the GTS clear plexi headlight covers and I think I'm going to try and install them. People have told me that they blow off at highway speeds if you use the stock velcro attachments. I'm wondering how the Pace Car covers were fastened. The '82 Pace car has the clear covers on and I think they are both cool looking, but also help the car aerodynamically. I can actually see the hood corners vibrating when the car is going 80+..the pockets created by the hood and headlight openings cause a lot of drag!

The '82 p/c never came w/covers..i don't think they were even invented yet. I had them on my '89 back in high school. The covers come w/very heavy duty double sided tape (3m) and it won't be an issue at highway speeds. The one issue is taking them off. You have to bend the cover to get it out of its grove for cleaning...in cold weather they will crack as what it did to mine. |

Dave, I think the original ones that actually paced the Indy 500 had covers. They also had 350's with aluminum blocks and heads. The production ones didn't. I have a lot of books with the original Pace Car and they had the covers on.

I've heard tons of stories of them flying off at around 50/60mph. |

I don't know for a fact if they had 350's with aluminum blocks and heads (it would be cool though), but just think of how fast they have to pace those cars at. With the factory set up the pace car would take too long to get to pace speed and it would over heat right on the track. That would sell cars on Monday; over heating on a new platform and in front of the entire world. |

I had some links saved for headlight covers when I used to bookmark links. I'll look for it later. |

Thanks Duke....the actual Pace cars were quite different than the commemorative pace cars GM sold to the public! |
