Sanding?

I have been sanding my alumnium lips on my rims. I went from 320 800 1000 2000. Also do they make higher then 2000grit for cars? Some spots come out to a full out nice chrome polish look and some spots don't. I'm missing a step somewhere in here.

Would be very happy if someone knew.

Thanks, Josh

I just lightly sand with the lowest grit "320" in a up to down left to right and circle pattern lightly then work your way up. at 1000 you should be wet sanding applying a little pressure and sanding a lot faster. do the same all the way up to 2000 which should feel like you have been abusing yourself for 5 days straight and should look mirror like.. You sound like your doing it right though.

Yes they make like 100k sandpaper but it is for like jewerly and sh!t. You should be fine with 2000 but you can look for 3000 it wont hurt to try. You prolly sanded a certian area to much and thats why you see little flaws.

:iagree: ...wet sanding then using a buffer w/different polishes is the final step...i like mothers products but they do sell kits for aluminum rims.

:imwithstupid: They make nice kits to use with a drill. Perfect size for wheels and you find the kit at just about any auto parts store, I think Wally World might even have 'em.

I wouldn't start with 320, I would start with 600 and work my way up to 1500.

And WTF is Wally World?

Started with 320 to get the clear coat off. I got the one rim done in a hour have not wet sanded it and it shines. I want a 3000 but it need to go over it with 2000grit and it being wet. I'll post up a pick in 15 minutes. Do a before and after.

FIRST ONE IS BEFORE:

SECOND ONE IS AFTER: I mean it's a good shine but it can get a little better.

ok when i used to pollish the TPI plenums i cheated a little and used air grinders (helped that it worked in an aluinium machine shop)

for the plenum i started with i believe 120 grit on the grinder then went to 60 on a palm sander then to 80 then 150 to 300 wet then 600 wet from there i went to a bench grinder with buffing pads with a special roosh (pollish) and that was even a 4 step prossess

for the rims i would do this

start with 220 and then go to 320 by hand evenly all the way around then go up to then go to 500 then switch to 600 wet sand and then 800 wet sand then get the mothers power ball and aluminium pollish and buff to your liking it will come out like a mirror no need to go up to 2 or 3000 thats overkill and a waist of your time good luck and happy pollishing

Actually you are both wrong. Wally-World was originally Waldbaums Supermarket. Wally is what they use to call their store brand products and still call their cat food Wally

Does Waldbaum's exist outside of the City (Long Island counts as the city IMO)?

We're going off topic... Illusion's you're hired, the wheels look great.

Not bad. Now to make them look better get a speed balance and have them only put the weights on the inside of the rim. Cause on the outside it kills the whole rim.

^ Its only the greatest place in the world, esp if its super Wally World. A place where you can pick produce, order a rump roast, shop for an engagement ring, while having your taxes done, look at welders and air compressors while having new tires put on your car, pick out an outfit for your goldfish while deciding on what color you want to paint your bedroom w/the wide vast of household products they carry...and also get an outfit for the prom. I even think they braid asshair on LL2.

And wallyworld loves you for sinking in the money for there bad choices of items. I think it's kinda funny how people say walmart sucks. It's not walmart's fault that they get crappy products from stupid bussiness with messed up machines and taking there time to do somthing right the first time.

Chris, I didn't mean it was all city, I just consider it all a general area more so than folks that live on the island. If that makes sense. I've personally never been there... yet. I apologize if I offended anyone.

I find the natural progression of people that live in 'boroughs' is to eventually migrate to LI when they have kids, get married or want to domesticate themselves. LI is looked upon as rural, family friendly and relaxed an area. Seems borough people are real scared for NJ or upstate NY for some reason. All my coworkers plan on doing or have done the migration to the island. I wouldn't consider it 'country' though. You guys are far from the hicks that Shane has up by him. I consider myself border line country but not full blown. If you can't dispose of a body in the majority of your town and keep it hidden for more than 1year in your area, your not country!

Well it is actually split.

People from Brooklyn (first move to Si) and SI tend to move to Jersey
Bronx heads to North
Queens and Manhattan migrate to Long Island

A lot of people I know, born and raised in LI, moved to the city or closer to the city for work. I personally moved to Brooklyn because of a good position I got working in NYC on high rise buildings. I was constantly on call. Did I like the city, hell no. That's probably why I am back in long island after 2 years of that.

If I were to move anywhere now I would move closer upstate, But I will most likely stay on the island because of the school systems when I decide to have kids.
