Fiberglas hood

I Got a factory fiberglas hood from a 82 Camaro, put it on my 86 IROC and it won't close. Under side of hood hit my TPI air intake where it goes over the radiator support. I think I can cut the under side of hood to make it fit. Anybody tried this before?

The original glass hood is rare, I would get rid of the airbox and put a K&N filter on the throttle body

Yes we know.

What Alex was suggesting is removing the TPI air box and snorkle and replacing it with a KN filter.

Here is the filter you would use:

Here is what it would look like

At least I have 1 thing on my car that is rare. I didn't realize my hood was fiberglass til I got it home and looked at it.

I have a carb. Took my airbox out and have a regular open element air filter. The clearence is pretty tight so I can only use a 3'' tall filter.

I'm guessing they mount up to grille, do you have fog lights? Did you remove them?

Tpi guys sometimes cut the bottom of the airbox out and remove those flaps under the filter for better flow. Don't cut the stock hood, worse comes to worse get a kit from spectre that you can make the mas work with. These are universal kits for ram air or the sort.

I learned something new about these original chevy fiberglas hoods. There are at least 2 different types, one has the scoops completely molded closed and another hood has the scoops open, and a bracket molded in to mount the ram air box.

The functional ones were for the crossfires.
