I Got a factory fiberglas hood from a 82 Camaro, put it on my 86 IROC and it won't close. Under side of hood hit my TPI air intake where it goes over the radiator support. I think I can cut the under side of hood to make it fit. Anybody tried this before? |

The original glass hood is rare, I would get rid of the airbox and put a K&N filter on the throttle body |

Yes we know. What Alex was suggesting is removing the TPI air box and snorkle and replacing it with a KN filter. Here is the filter you would use: http://www.jegs.com/i/K%26N/599/RC-5000/10002/-1?CT=999 Here is what it would look like |

At least I have 1 thing on my car that is rare. I didn't realize my hood was fiberglass til I got it home and looked at it. I have a carb. Took my airbox out and have a regular open element air filter. The clearence is pretty tight so I can only use a 3'' tall filter. |

No, it doesn't work with a MAF. But it looks great
I'm guessing they mount up to grille, do you have fog lights? Did you remove them? Edited by Vermont-IROC, Apr 29 2011, 06:32 PM.

Tpi guys sometimes cut the bottom of the airbox out and remove those flaps under the filter for better flow. Don't cut the stock hood, worse comes to worse get a kit from spectre that you can make the mas work with. These are universal kits for ram air or the sort. |

I learned something new about these original chevy fiberglas hoods. There are at least 2 different types, one has the scoops completely molded closed and another hood has the scoops open, and a bracket molded in to mount the ram air box. |
