I originally wanted a T-Top GTA, but the 91-92 T-Top cars with 350 were extremely rare because Pontiac banned T-Tops with the 350 starting in 1990. A very small number slipped through with the 350 and the tops. I decided that I wanted to go fast more than I wanted the tops so I took the hardtop 350 combo. I've been in several T-Top cars, and even though they're nice, if I had to choose again, I'd still get the hardtop with the 350. I had no squeaks in my car even before the SFCs went in.

The only T-Top car I'd go for now is a 4th gen because they fixed all the problems, but that's another story.
Currently looking for a 91-92 Z28, TTA or GN

If its a choice between T-tops and hard top, I would go hard, if its between a vert and T-top, I would go vert, If its a choich between all three, well then I'm driving my answer.

I can see why the Camaro guys think that way. Without the T-Tops, the Camaros just have nothing else going for them. The Firebirds have a lot more going for them so they don't need that ish... :P

Of course the Firebird would lose that one. Camaros were the cheaper F-car so naturally they had more sales... :fail:

Daddy bought their little girls the Birds because they cost more than the Camaro.

And we do have the better interiors.

-And better options packages
-Had more aftermarket re-makes done (Firehawk, Tojan)
-Scored a better motor in 1989 (TTA)
-Used as a test bed for SLP
-Better aerodynamics

Damn right we rode your coattails. SMART people work smarter, not harder. :lmao:

But anyway, that's why Birds don't need that T-Top BS.

I love stan and his polls. I for one had them all, and prefer the 'vert option way above the rest. Before i bought my r/s i was looking at a ttop black iroc from 88..may have even been a 350 but forgot. I just loved the top up or down in the camaros...the fox bodies back in the same year had the roof that you could see when down, kinda like the vw rabbits and the baby carriage look. The camaro has that flat tonneau cover which imo looks slick and clean...plus the first thing i bought for it was the rollbar for that 60's shelby look. Even w/the top up it looks like the roofline was chopped. If i can take the words from that guy who has the only vert firehawk that al sent me the article on....'no matter what car it is, any muscle car is worth more in the long run and is more desirable if its a vert". Thats also the reason i bought mine too, resale value down the road. What we all can attest to is their was a lot of 3rd gen f/bodies sold, so outta everyone that wanted, wants, had one, the vert will stilll be the option present/future that people will want but will be harder to find due to limited production numbers. My vert doesn't leak but both my ttops did...and ttops are a bitch to take on and off...i took the tops off the bird once to paint them...they are pretty much staying on from now on though.

Like a G6
i really wanted t-tops when i was looking for a car....but another selling point was it had 2 be cheap and a 5-spd. i got 2 outta the 3 and people say im waaay better off without t-tops cause all they end up doing is leaking which since my car is always outside would be a pita. but i'd still like to get t-tops someday.

and riding in daves vert was the coolest, sure u could bend his car in half w 2 fingers, but theres nothing like the open road

i think you need to do another pole and just list 20 dif combinations of motor/car/ttop/etc... that would be an interesting one to see. a full club breakdown.

I wouldn't have bot my car if it was a ttop or a vert.

I use to reseal ttops when I worked for GM dealerships and like I have said in the past, I never want to do that again. Most of the guys on here with ttops complain that they leak, heavy or a pain to take on and off. So I ask myself, why the Fcuk would I want to go through that.

Verts, to me, look like sh!t. When the top comes down you loose the lines of the car. Also, it is way too easy to steel the car. All you need is a screwdriver. Rip open the top and break the steering column and you are gone. Atleast with a hard top or ttop car they will need a second tool and that takes time.

IMO
Hard top = sports car.
Ttop/sunroof = family car
Vert = middle aged balding man with a pony tail trying to recapture his youth. And that is sad.

1983z28 should tell us his honest opinion. If you store your 3rd gen outside at this current time, hardtop. Mine is a garage queen and it doesn't sit anywhere unattended so no worries about b&e. Also a real sports cars can't just be a hardtop...911 s/c...427/435hp '67 vette...hemi cuda vert....etc...you can have both sometimes...hell, even audi r8 v12 droptop.

Stan is the department of statistics now..lol, but what john said would be interesting....creating a poll w/options like a build sheet and see what people would pick if they were to order a 3rd gen NOW (yes we know pontiac is no longer existent but still). I'd gather a lot of 1le type vehicles...i.e. hardtop/5spd/305 tpi's..or the same in a gta. Wonder if anyone would pony up $ for a tojan/tta/firehawk, like ed or glen.

I hear you on your examples. If I owned one of those with a targa top, I probably wouldn't take it off. I don't know it is just me I just really don't care for the drop top. Not saying that your isn't nice, because it is probably the nicest one that I have seen, I just wouldn't own one. I guess I am just an old crusty fart stuck in his ways.
