Ok, since this was the first major suspension mod I did on my car, I thought I would do a review on it. Every other part of my suspension is stock. I needed a crossmember for my T56 swap and I found this setup on TGO for pretty cheap. This came with the crossmember mounted torque arm with the spherical rod end crossmember bushing. It also came with front and rear driveshaft loops. Let me say that this thing is BEEFY. Definitely will not flex under load and is adjustable in terms of pinion angle. I left it in the stock position for now.![]() ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, Perry had to cut my front driveshaft loop off because it interefered with the Flowmaster Y-pipe that I'm running. My first thoughts... the crossmember sits LOW. It's the lowest part of the car and I already scraped it on a speed bump. The spherical rod end makes noise if you upset it too much. I use the noise to gauge how smooth I'm driving with the T56. If I'm not smooth, it'll bang loudly to let me know I suck. The torque arm also acts like a tuning fork if you have gears in the back. On decelration, it sounds like a jet engine spooling down for landing. It's pretty cool. As for the before and after performance... it is awesome. I gave the car a few hard pulls and it was straight as an arrow. It almost just kind of hunkers down and takes off without any side to side fuss. Before with my stock setup, the car wanted to depart controlled driving on hard launches. Now it plants itself and goes where I want it to go. I'm very impressed with this product, and I can't wait to see how much of an improvement I get when I do the rest of the suspension. Edited by JekyllandHyde, Nov 14 2011, 11:24 PM.

Sounds good, nice write up. Glad to hear it worked out. I am always half impressed whenever I do a suspension upgrade, its hard to actually "feel" the difference when doing one thing at a time. |

Safety first! No body wants the prize of a pole vaulting themselves through the front windshield just because they reached a certain TQ number. |

Yeah the car is extremely stable under braking. I'm still running the stock brakes and the car just feels a lot more in control when braking. I really like this thing a lot. |

I also have the Spohn T56 cross member and torque arm... 1 - like already mentioned it does hang extremely low. 2 - my drive shaft yolk was just nicking the side of the drive shaft loop making a really loud and annoying ticking sound during heavy acceleration. I think this is due to the larger driveshaft i had put in. with the factory one it may have been fine. 3 - extremely difficult, if not impossible, to have a true dual exhaust due to the fins that hang low from the cross member. i had to have the fins cut down to run thr three inch pipes by and added in an extra stiffener plate to make up for cutting down the fins. i also have every other bolt-on suspension change that can be done (mostly Spohn and some UMI) and its amazing how i can spin the wheels without sliding over to the side at all. its perfectly straight everytime, as long as the front wheels are straight that is... lol. if your car is lowered or you plan on a dual exhaust setup i would recommend either having a cross member custom made or you will likely need to modify this one like i did. |
