What do you guys Prefer When Running a cold air intake system. A bigger air filter on the end or a smaller one. I'm thinking a smaller one would cause less power and air to the engine. Would a bigger size one be too much?? |

Larger filters 90% of the time flow better. Paper filters flow worse than cotton gauze. You cant really have to big of a filter, until it just looks stupid. Your engine only takes what it needs. Usually you should go by the biggest filter you can fit in the given space. To an extent. K&N is all you need. They are over rated but worth every penny, and have a million mile warranty. My question what car are you driving that you are concerned with the fractional HP loss between filters of marginally different sizes, or is this pure curiosity. It doesn't make a difference either way on a stock 305. Pretty much any filter you put on your camaro will be able to flow more than your engine requires. |

RIP Common sense. Lets think about this a second. Imagine a small diameter pipe filling a bucket with . water. Now imagine another pipe that's bigger filing another bucket of water at the same time. Which one do you think will get the job done faster? Point of the story in case you missed it... Find and run the largest filter you can fit. |

An important point is: a smaller filter means less surface area. This means the filter will fill up and clog sooner than a larger filter. Another "bigger is better"!

What you should really be concerned with is the color of the filter. Red adds more horsepower than blue. |

A brick?? You got it wrong. I need a couple of those air cyclones inside there and a couple magnets on my fuel lines..... Red Means Warm air and blue means cool. Only if they had a green filter.... I'm only kidding. I just wanted to know if it would have a better flow difference. Should I just go Open Element? I really don't care if it sucks in a little of the engine heat. itll suck in heat from the motor regardless. pulling the filter off will increase performance for a few minutes but asa you drive over a patch of dirt you can say goodbye to your motor. ever try vacuuming a sandbox? |

Grab yourself a carb hat, some Spectre tubing from Autozone (PVC pipe has proved effective as well, also cheaper) then route the piping down through the driver's side where the charcoal canister is. Install whatever filter will fit in that small space and bam! Instant cold air intake good for a 5% HP increase. The chromed Spectre tubing looks a lot nicer than the PVC pipe, but with a good coat of gloss black paint the PVC can look nice too. Here ya go bud, a few links for you to kill some time with. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Performance/Intake-Tube/_/N-25n3 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Performance/Intake-Coupler/_/N-2615 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Performance/Air-Duct-Hose/_/N-25h5 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/K-N-Universal-air-cleaner-with-1-938-in-i-d-20-degree-angled-flange/_/N-26ql?counter=2&itemIdentifier=93460_0_0_ Now, you supply the ingenuity and creativity.
