Drivers side floor soaked- Windshield Cowl Leak

Hey guys,

Finally on winter break from school and back on Long Island, so now I can start fixing all the problems I have with my camaro. For the past few months, my drivers side floor has always been wet. Turns out the leak is coming from the cowl (plastic piece right under the windshield). I took the plastic piece off and investigated. There is a decent amount of rust. But, since this is an A/C car, which direction does the water drain out from the drain holes under the car? I cleaned out the drivers and passenger side drain holes (bunch of leaves and crap in there).

The water is running down the corner of the firewall down to the drivers side..

How do I fix this!! Re-weld new metal in?? Or bondo it? I don't have access to a welder personally but maybe I should just bring the car to a body shop.

HELP.

Definitely get an estimate first, it will give you an idea of what it will cost to fix it yourself. The ONLY way to fix rust is cut it out and weld new metal in. Its like cancer for cars. If you can weld, sheet metal is cheap, since its covered it doesn't have to be pretty. Weld it, POR-15 it and be done with it.

Do you see where it's comming from? Can you reach it or being it, look up seam sealer, the original stuff dries and cracks on older cars and causes leaks.

First, dry the car out and when not in use, cover it..you can throw a tarp over it but since your away at school, that should be taken off when its not raining. Any breathable cover is just that, permeable and will let water go through. Use a hose and try to mimic it raining and see exactly where its coming in. Post pics.

I had the cowl off and found rust where the seam sealer was. The seam sealer has completely dried up and is peeling off. I was reading on thirdgen that the water should be running down the drivers side fender? I'll take some pics tomorrow.

Kenny, it probably is..trying running the hose on it.

Run the hose on it, find the leak 100%, mark it, dry, remove as much of old seam sealer and redo it in 3m seam sealer, apply and use your finger to run it into the grove, don't be cheap with it, if you have the wipers out and the cowl screen, enough room to get your hands in there, that's how I did mine.
