Interesting article on nascar efi....there is some new info here. I wonder if there is any "wiggle" room for teams to try to get an edge with this new system? Mclaren is supplying the ECU's...

For you geeks....

I wonder how much each unit is? Probably in the thousands.

yeah they were talkiing about doing efi for a little while, i didnt know it was being implemented for this year.....no more flames out the exhaust :( but the big teams like hendrick and rousch will immediatly find thw wiggle room your talking about, and the small teams will still be in the dark....theres no way to level the playing feild

saw some #'s on speed tv just now, testing at daytona the cars got up to 206MPH....wonder if nascar is going to restrict the engines more before the daytona 500 to slow em down

They probably will. Same thing happened last year.
They will keep fine tuning until the day of the 500

:iagree:

I love watching the vintage NASCAR races from the 60s and 70s because those cars were cars that you could order from the dealer.

this unit is expensive they even want the local racers to switch to it and my driver isnt to excited about it because of the extra weight in the car (he says the cars to heavy with new tires on it lol) and that its gunna cost more to maintain and stuff. there is also a rumor that they want them to run on E-85 but dont see that happening any time soon

That was back when the manufacturers could be directly involved, a lot of R&D came out of those races and straight into production cars. We definitely need to get back to that.

So, if they don't allow these guys to plug in on pit lane and they have lets say... a crank sensor go bad mid race. They're kinda screwed for the rest of the race then eh?

shane your right if they are not aloud to plug in in the pits it would pretty much screw us because then it will take more time to figure out what it is thats messing up and it also ads more to the list of potential problems kinda like diagnosing a 3rdgen lol. not the best picture but here is an idea as to how basic a racecar really is as of now with the EFI i dont see to much changing but its enough to slow down the crew
